What is it with people sending private messages about buying something that you have for sale? You answer them and never get a reply when you agree with the deal.Idont get it.

Some people are like that, not just on here. They fantasize about owning something, then reality strikes and they feel too foolish to admit it.

I believe there is a severe lack of response on many threads. Not limited to this forum either. A recent discussion about what fixed your equipment is a good example. The OP asked for help and once suggestions were offered, no follow up reply. I see this on the Music Electronics forum as well. A lot of folks lack the communication skills or etiquette to understand the importance of follow up. I find a similar problem with our everyday life and business dealings. Waiting on a call back on an important issue. Good luck.

One thing that really irritates me is, someone will ask a question, and someone responds to the OP by PM or email with an answer. If it solves a problem, it would be nice to know what fixed it. Chances are that others have the same issues. Why keep it private?

Of course, email addresses and phone numbers should be kept private.

I rather detest Forum PMs: they aren't threaded so you can follow an entire conversation; you can't attach files; it doesn't get in your face announcing new messages unless you log into the forum, like my iPhone and Mac do; there's a tiny limit on how many you can receive and retain...

Other than those things, I love PM... Oh Well Oh Well!

John, one solution is to email back your response to a pm. Then just pm back: “sent email, you can reach me at blah”

I see this kind of stuff everywhere in computer land and at work also. It's refreshing when someone says "Thank you!" anymore. In a society that seems to be generally trending toward being less gracious, some of it seems to come with the way kids are raised and carries over to adulthood.

I hate it when you ask a specific question like: People that have used xxxxxx brand strings, what's you opinion of them? Then someone that is obviously not qualified to answer says: I've never used them, but I would think...... bla, bla, bla and some negative comment. Then other people won't answer because they dont want to have an argument.

Here's a couple things that have happened to me. Sometimes people send PMs but think they have hit the email button to send so when you PM message them back, they don't notice the PM message alert. Some people never see the PM alert. I've got 3 or 4 messages still in my outbox from months ago.
Some folks really don't know how to manage either, sometimes using their kids or wives to do it for them.

Sometimes, they're just rude and don't answer back regardless of the media. I've had this happen several times, but I don't get too upset about it, I just move on.

I've had excellent results using PMs. It's the only media I use here to communicate unless someone demands an email for pics or other media that can't be sent by PM, but emails can get lost too.

I've done many a deal strictly through PM'ing another party initially, then following up everything with simple phone calls.

Personally, I think the PM feature here is a great one. I'd be lost without it.
