I did some session work last October and the steel I was borrowing was an old Sho Bud S-10. It had a small felt pad for holding the tone bar. I just got a new ZumSteel Encore, and since there's no wrist pad, one of these little tone bar pads would be perfect. I'm wondering if anyone has seen these or if someone makes them now. The one on the steel I used was a nicer than how it would turn out if I tried to make one myself.

I know there’s probably a good reason not to do this, but I haven’t discovered it yet. This works for me.

I have a Zum Encore also. I found the arm rest pad to be a little too low, so I just added two washers on the under side of the pad, used a tad longer screws to all together, now it works fine, and my bar doesn't roll off the guitar now as the arm rest is a touch higher now. A pad would still be nice though.
Happy Independence Day.

I’ve been placing my bar on the keyhead for 40 years.

I place my bar in the key head too. The pad was only about four inches long, so not like a wrist pad at all.

I just remembered I had a couple photos from that session. It was great fun. That steel was gorgeous. I hadn’t been playing much and I feel back in love with it. It’s why I’m playing a lot more right now.

Thanks for posting that photo Brooks.

Never thought to park the bar up there. Smile

The pad looks like a nice idea as well Devon.

But I would end up knocking things off siting on the edge.

Yep, old MSA’s keyheads have an open end steel to floor dispenser. Laughing

My key head is open and the bar just slides out for a quick fix I used a piece of about 1" wide Velcro looped over itself (Smooth Felt out) and then raped it with a couple of smaller pieces to keep it together. Snug fit between my SD pad and neck stays put even in the case. You could do the same with a stick on piece just fold the adhesive side together along one edge to keep the bar from rolling.

I've been putting my bar on the keyhead since 1982 when I was in Duane Marrs store and saw him do it. It makes sense ...that's what the bar does(lay on the strings)

Just a simple piece of fabric folded over and sewn. Girlfriend made it for me in about 5 minuets. works well to prevent scratches and help keep dust out from between neck and pad.Smile

I have made a bar holder for 2 steels I have gigged, The first one was a MSA S10 On 3/4 body, The 2nd is on the GFI S12U I am playing now. The MSA had the 12 slot key head on a 10 string guitar. It gave me room to lay my steel bar and nylon Do-Bro bar end to end an ready to switch quick.

This is the pad and bar holder on my MSA S10. There is a lot of space along the tuner head to play with on many SD10 guitars.

Made from two PVC pipe end-caps and a electrical conduit clamp.
