Dave,

You can get lucky with Gumtree and the Brisbane Steel Guitar Club website from time to time, but most likely you will need to source something from overseas.

There’s a Fender 800 for sale in Logan, QLD. You can find it on gumtree.

Personally I’d go a fender 800 over a GFI, and this one is fully featured with four knee levers. but I have experience with the mechanics of fenders. But you’re right in cautioning the fender as an entry guitar. The GFI is probably a safer bet for a beginner. Other than that, you’re right Damien in that you would have to import one and the exchange rate is not friendly at the moment.

Hi David, steels are usually overpriced in Oz, Getting one from the US is a far better option, and you can decide whether to shout yourself a holiday to pick one up (and avoid delivery fees and taxes) or just get it delivered.

As an option, you could try Doug Earnest at Stage One Steel Guitars in the USA. He sent mine to NZ a beautiful Zum Encore. I think they run about $1650 US - Cheers
