The band I play with has floated the idea of covering this old Procol Harum classic. They of course want me to cover the organ part, which is the signature sound of the song. I've searched the SGF, YouTube, google, etc, and can't seem to find anybody playing the song on PSG. I can always sit down and figure something out of my own, but I'd like to see some other approaches just out of curiosity.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

And Merry Christmas to all!

Get with Jim Cohen. He has a CD with a great version of that tune.

Just comp the chords off of any chart from the internet but put a ton of reverb and delay. In the spots of the song where chord changes are few and far between, the melody lends itself to variations on straight up scales. Lots of country fans that I talk to these days also like classic rock, and it goes over big. The song is a natural for pedal steel, and I think you will fall right into it with any old chord chart off the net.

I recorded it on my "Home, James" CD several years ago. You can hear a preview of it, and download it for $0.99 at this link: https://www.jimcohen.com/music
