Friends,
Long time since I posted. I am moving to Hawaii this coming year and have never been into Hawaiian music as there was no commercial market for it where I lived. Naturally as a steel guitarist and musician, I appreciate Hawaiian music and since I am going to be living there for a few years I am starting to look into it.
Any artist recommendations to listen to?
What songs should I learn on C6?
Any advice on artists in the Islands to go see?

Alan Akaka, Bobby Ingano, and Jeff Au Hoy are all great steel guitarists on O'ahu, I'm sure there are others too. Alan's a great teacher, as well.
My favorite Hawaiian players would be of the postwar "Hawaii Calls" era. Jules Ah See most notably, an absolute genius. You'll hear him on Hawaii Calls albums from the 50s (alternating with Barney Isaacs, another great). If you want to start listening to that era, I'd recommend...let's see, the Best of Alfred Apaka, Hawaiian Shores (Hawaii Calls), Steel Guitar Magic (bit later but featured Isaacs and Billy Hew Len) and the Tapa Room Tapes which are live broadcasts of moderate audio quality, but exceptional musical quality... _________________ Waikīkī, at night when the shadows are falling

Not much to add to what Nic said, a lesson with Alan Akaka is a great point to start with, he knows everybody ! _________________ https://hawaiian-steel-guitar.com |

If you have Spotify, do a search on Benjamin Rogers. All of his stuff out there is classic Hawaiian. _________________ Steve Marinak |

Mark,
It will be one paradise to another. Warsaw is an unknown gem amoung the unique beauty of Eastern Europe (It is really Central Europe for all the Poles that might see this).
Bill,
I might see if my daughter wants to learn, she is rather muscially inclinded.
Steve,
I will look into Spotify but it is something I have never used so who knows if I will be able to figure it out.
Thanks all for the comments and support.
