I never use pedal 8, and would like to change the pulls to something I might use more.
Any ideas?
thanks,
Drew

Drew,
I added a first string half step raise (D to Eb) to that pedal and it started making more sense to me. If you look at it more as a tri-tone sub move than a boo-wah sound there is quite a bit there.
Another amazing thing about the 8th pedal is how close it brings you to the Sacred Steel tuning. While the 8th pedal is engaged check out what the 7th pedal does.

Drew-Here is couple that I use, 6th string E down a whole tone to D, and the 5th string G down a whole tone to F. Both together gives you a full F6, Subdominant chord.
But I split them to go along with P 5 and P6 separately. Lots of Reece sounding stuff there.
Of course I am using E6 just like C6 only 2 whole tones higher and brighter sound, also same fret positions as E9......al

I think I would look at switching the Pedal #4 & #8 positions. I use the Boo-wah quite a bit and it would be easier if it was next to #5 seems like. As far I adding something difference, I'm looking at a way to lower the 8th String(A) three separate tones. Coming out a minor chord it gives a pretty sound when lowering just the bottom note one step at a time. I think I may have heard this on a Julian Tharpe album at one time and just happen to run across the lick the other night when I was fooling with "Close To You". Or it may have been "Time In A Bottle". The guitar part in it. |

John S,
I fixed my boo boo on the boo wah. Its Eb not C#. Thanks for pointing that out.

I hate the description of the 8th pedal as a "boo-wah". That denigrates it and implies that it is a "lick pedal" which it is not!

I completely agree with Gene.
Having a convenient way to play a I VI II V I progression is one of the coolest things about the C6 pedal changes to me.
NP -- P8 (boo wah) -- P5 -- up 2 frets P6 -- back down NP
or, even cooler
NP -- P8 -- P5 -- back 1 fret w/P5+6 for the V13 -- NP
I wouldn't like to play without that quick I -- VI.
And I love the 7+9 chord 3 frets up -- use it all the time -- whether I 'boo wah' the bottom string or not.
I don't consider P8 to be a lick pedal at all.
