Jimmie, have you considered making a keyless version, to keep the overall size down?

I have looked at doing a keyless model. I do not think it would be cost effective on the practice board.
If I come up with a way to do it at a reasonable cost I may then offer keyless.

DG,
That's my red lacquer one in the photo built to pre RP Mullen scale and spacing. Jimmie did an absolutely amazing job!
I'm going to get him to build me an 8 string model tuned to Don HelmsE6 soon
I'm well pleased with the guitar l and you will be too !

Jimmie, I sure like that new Lap Steel you came out with. I may just have to order one. There is one on e-bay right now I'm watching. The price is right too.

What you see in the photos is what I offer. It does stay in tune and the sound is good. If you add a pickup they are as good as any lap steel in the price range.

the string spacing is standard .330
And has the extra holes part drilled at the bridge end for .375 string spacing. The nut can be removed and flipped to make the string slots .375 or any spacing you choose up to .400 or as little as .275

Jimmie built mine custom to match my pre RP a couple years ago and I can’t say enough about how pleased I am with it, it’s performance, and it’s appearance. He also installed a pickup and built it to the same string spacing as my pre RP. Cost me a little extra for the extras but well worth the added expense, and I will say Jimmie Hudson is one of only a couple of people in the world I’d not hesitate to purchase a steel guitar or anything else from sight unseen and without haggling over the price. I’m not one to trust just anyone by any means but Mr Hudson has my unquestioning confidence. ‘Nuff said😁
