I want to replace the factory speaker in my Fender HR Deluxe with the Eminence Double-T 12 (Travis Toy signature speaker).

Would like to hear from anyone who has done this.

Were you pleased with the results for pedal steel? Does the the TT-12 seem louder? I'm looking for subjective impressions, rather than measurements of efficiency.

Did you run into any issues with the actual installation of the new speaker?

How much weight did it save?

Just placed one in N-112 and really like it. Going to get another and put them both in a 2X12" cab. These speakers are uber light - about 7 lbs each. Big upgrade from the the OEM Peavey Blue Marvel speaker.

Have seen lots of recommendations for it. It is 8 ohms, so should work well to replace the stock speaker.

Fender has used different speakers in this amp. I believe mine is an Eminence Legend 125/50-watt, used from 1995 until ~2010. The TT-12 should be significantly lighter, but I haven't been able to determine how much.

Also looking for advice on the installation itself. I've taken this amp apart several times. Anything special I should be aware of? How much should the mounting nuts be tightened?

I have a 2001 HRD that I purchased new. Everything, including the "Fender Special Design" Eminence speaker, is completely stock. Works okay for 6-string lap steel, but won't cut it with a D-10. Eagerly awaiting your appraisal of the TT-12 in your HRD.

Jack, if you're handy with a soldering iron you can make a big improvements to the amp's tone stack.

I'm using it for pedal steel with my band, and very pleased with the sound (everything is mic'ed, so 40 watts is OK). Here's what I did to it:

Bump... I'm not an "early adopter." I can't be the first one who's tried this.

The last time I replaced a stock speaker was around 1972, when I put a pair of EV "coffee-can" SROs into a SF Twin. It was a beast.

How much should the mounting nuts be tightened?

If you're using a nut driver (screwdriver-type handle), tighten using your thumb and one finger only. That's my "rule of thumb" for speaker nuts. It limits the torque about right. You never want to crank down hard - you can warp the basket and make the voice coil rub or cease up, especially if it's a stamped basket. (Don't ask me how I learned this.) Just lightly snugged down is best.

If you're still looking for a TT-12, I have one in "like new" condition I'd be willing to sell. Liked it, but quit playing pedal steel shortly after I bought it.

Hi Landon,

I snoozed, and I losed (is that a word?). I see that you sold it about 2 hours after your post. Tom D got himself a nice speaker!

I ran a HRD with one of my 1201 extension cabs once and it sounded great. I would expect similar results with the TT-12 mounted in the amp.

It's become my favorite speaker too. I'm about to get a second one to put in my Allen Accomplice guitar amp. I love playing guitar through it, especially a Tele; it chops off the ice pick highs and leaves a sweet, cutting upper mid that's not honky or harsh.

I have the rack mount version of the Quilter 'Steelaire'. Commissioned Rick Johnson to build a 1-12" cab with rack rails(wonderful job per usual) to be used as a light weight club amp. Speaker of choice was the TT and the match proved to be ideal. Tone is exceptional with volume to spare despite the speaker being 8 ohms.
