The 1st string is the highest note? The 10th string the lowest note? When sitting at my guitar, is the 10th string closest to me? _________________ Jesus Loves Me AND The Pedal Steel Guitar

Not a silly question at all! But, you 100% correct... Sort of...
A lot of string 1 being the highest note depends on the copedent, E9, C6, universal, etc. _________________ Amateur Radio Operator NA4IT (Extra)

Yes, we typically call the unwound string farthest from you the first string, and the wound one closest to you, string 10. But string one is not the "highest" note in standard E9 tuning. The 3rd string (G#) is higher than both the 2nd and 1st strings. _________________ www.JimCohen.com

You'll do fine! It'll take about a year to sound bad on it, but there's a LOT of players in Oregon, so, as soon as you can, try to get some lessons..it really shortens the curve! Enjoy the ride! ![Smile](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

I've met a couple guys about 3.5 hours away that are willing to help me out. We travel to the Willamette Valley every 4-6 weeks to see our kids and at the same time I will get a lesson or two in. One guy is Larry Behm and the other is Lynn Stafford. I've been playing a Fender 6 String Lapsteel with a band the last 4 years, so hopefully I can switch.... learning the pedals and levers will be the challenge. Appreciate your encouragement! _________________ Jesus Loves Me AND The Pedal Steel Guitar

I wish I started 30 to 50 years ago. I actually started playing music after I retired 8 years ago. I started playing harmonica, added a Fender 6 String Lapsteel, joined a band and now want to do PSG. Hope I can learn... the older we are the harder new things are. But it is good.... keeps our minds young. _________________ Jesus Loves Me AND The Pedal Steel Guitar

Thanks Rosko..... I look forward to meeting him and connecting with a few other PSG players here & there. We live in Central Oregon, but we go to the valley quite often. _________________ Jesus Loves Me AND The Pedal Steel Guitar

Thomas, there are no stupid questions. We are all here to teach and learn from each other. And even us more experienced players can learn from newbies who don't have any preconceived ideas, and will ask a question that will make us think about something new.
So please, ask away. _________________ Please visit my web site and Soundcloud page and listen to the music posted there.
