'I'm All Through Trusting You" Jimmie Widener, April 1946
Some reissue compilations have this solo down to Noel Boggs. While I don't doubt that Mr Boggs could reel off a Murphey impersonation, this seems to me to be Joaquin Murphey.
Opinions?

Yeah, Joaquin.
It's got that Joaquin bounce in the early portions of the solo that distinguishes it from Noel--who was on some later Widener recordings.
The immediately preceding matrix from the same day ("I Can Tell Just As Plain") is even more readily identifiable as Joaquin.

As usual, I laughed out loud at his ideas when I just now listened to this for the first time in several years.
What's going through his mind to come up with this stuff--leaving aside having the technique to execute it?
It's like that Ferlin Huskey with Joaquin track I know you've heard. The man was clearly possessed.

Murph. No question in my mind. It has his characteristic phrasing. _________________ Steel Guitar Books! Website: www.volkmediabooks.com |

Thank you, gentlemen. I will ink that one in as Joaquin.
What a solo on 'I Can Tell Plain As You"! Superb! Thanks, Mitch! BTW, I collected plenty of music last November and ate mainly barbeque as you suggested, but I am yet to have a Moon Pie. Man, those things look dangerous! |

They are a bit like a "Waggon Wheel" but fatter and softer. |
