He's subbing for Bob Lee (who replaced me) at 8 PM at the Twin Oaks with the Rhythm Rangers! It's a mixed bag of country, blues, swing, rock, Americana..... I think a few of us will be there tonight.
Edited to add the venue.... _________________ Dave Zirbel-

That's at the Twin Oaks Tavern, just north of Petaluma on Old Redwood Highway. Bobby Black was nice enough to sub for me on this gig, which I had to turn down for personal reasons. I know it's a long drive for him.
The Rhythm Rangers are a great band. I'm sure Bobby will get a lot of solos. Catch it if you can. _________________ -𝕓𝕆𝕓- (admin) - Robert P. Lee - Recordings - Breathe - D6th - Video |

Bobby brought his C6th tuned 12 string (edited/thanks Dave Z.) West Coast Steel non-pedal for the gig. I've heard this guitar a number of times in the past, but maybe the last three times in a row I've seen him he was on his Carter D-10 pedal steel.
I was hoping he would bring his new Clinesmith cast non-pedal, and he told me he thought about it but for whatever reason he opted for the West Coast steel, which is a very nice guitar. He played through his Walker Stereo rig. Sounded great to me but Bobby was complaining about some noise that he kept hearing through the rig during the evening.
For a lot us mere mortals, there might be a sense of "missing something" if you were to play a gig with a non-pedal vs. pedal steel and along with not having pedals, no E9th to play on something like a Haggard or Gram Parsons song.
In watching and listening to Bobby Black on Saturday evening, I never got a sense that anything was missing. Sure, it was a little different - but when it was his turn for a break, it was every bit as satisfying to my ears on this 12 string C6th tuned non-pedal as it would have been if were playing the Carter. The man is such a great player that it was seamless.

Good to see you too Dave!
Right, it's a 12 string, I mistakenly posted 10 string earlier. My brain might have still been in a fog that night from all the drinking on Thanksgiving Day... _________________ Mark |
