Joaquin Murphey 1976 solo Steel Guitar

(Posted By Chris Clem)

This is one of Joaquin's solo LPs, recorded Aug 24 1976. His playing here is quite different from his Spade Cooley or Tex Williams days, in the mid to late 1940s. He is still able to play some nice things, but is not the virtuoso that he once was. He did write several of these songs & they are pretty good. Overall I found this LP takes some getting use too, but is very enjoyable after you hear it a few times. The sound is "very 1976 Nashville sounding" which is not the best way to listen to music.

1. SWEET GEORGIA BROWN
2. MURPH'S BLUES
3. PICKIN' FOR A BIG'N
4. HOT WIRES
5. MOON GLOW
6. SUNNY SIDE OF THE STREET
7. HONEYSUCKLE ROSE
8. JOAQUIN'S WALTZ
9. SAND IS HOT
10. YOUR CHEATING HEART

Roger - Thanks for posting Joaquin's LP. Listening to it over and over. There's a lot going on here and a lot of ideas to draw from - especially on "Moonglow" and "Honeysuckle Rose." Thanks.
