My finger picks are excruciating after ten minutes. Any suggestions for a really comfortable set of finger picks, and where could I buy them?? |

Bend them to fit. It can take a long time to get it right. The Dunlop picks with their flared edges are a little more forgiving, but it mainly comes down to making them fit. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

Stock, I like the Dunlops.
A few people also are selling Nationals, with the band dipped in rubber. They're even better. |

Most people have never tried these picks but they are the most comfortable I've ever tried. Once i bought them I never turned back and Ive had them over 2 years now! Bob Perry power picks plus .
Pricy but excellent!

I hated the usual finger picks used by many, like you I could not get used to them, and felt like my fingertips were in a vise! I tried a set of Perfect Touch finger picks, and LOVED them!!! I've had them for 7 or 8 years (I think), and love them. When I got mine Rusty allowed you to try them and if you didn't like them, he would give you a full refund. Don't know if they still do that or not. They were the most comfortable picks I've ever tried.

By the way, the Perfect Touch folks do have a thumb pick, which I did try, but I did not care for that. I use a Golden Gate thumb pick along with the Perfect Touch finger picks on my 1st and 2nd fingers.

Another vote for Perfect Touch finger picks...got a set from Rusty at the 2006 Dallas show. It took about a week to get used to them. Tried the thumb pick but didn't like it. I have a backup set of Perfect Touch picks. Dunlops would be my second choice. Good luck with your choice...Carl |

I started with Dunlops, went through Jeff Newmans, and ended up with Nationals. But the same applies to all, at least for me. My round-nosed pliers are my friend, and with patience all the above can be made comfortable and secure. YpatienceMV. _________________ Make sleeping dogs tell the truth!

Yet another vote for Perfect Touch picks. I haven't tried the thumb pick yet, but let me tell you, the fingerpicks are by FAR the most comfortable of any I have tried so far, to ME anyway.
I never did have to spend any time with pliers bending and shaping them to fit. YMMV.

I've been using Dunlop picks, forever. They are very comfortable and are easily formed for your fingers. |

In regard to the perfect touch pick, are you guys all using the flat surface picks or the rounded ones?
Thanks

What I like about Dunlops is that they have a choice of gauges.
I don't like heavy picks, they are hard to shape to the finger.
I like finger picks in the range of .018
Most all the other picks are .025, much too heavy for my taste. |

Get some Dunlops - as light a gauge as you can (0.15). They are very malleable and can be shaped and re-shaped. Once you have a comfortable fit, get a heavier gauge and copy the shape!
BTW, ProPiks in brass are really great and were the answer to my particular pick prayer!! _________________ Ben-Rom #017 'Lorelei', Guild D25, Epiphone 'Joe Pass', Roland 40XL, Hilton VP

I got mine second hand, I'm not home right now, but I THINK they may be the rounded ones. Never really paid much attention to that, lol!!! I will double check and post back. |

Regarding flat or round tip Perfect Touch picks, I use the round tip. I've never tried the flat tip. |

I used Dunlops forever, shaped and dipped in plastic when that became available. A couple years ago I switched to plastic finger picks (Recording King XL) mostly to even out the tone and attack between my finger and thumb picks (works great) but a side benefit was they're far more comfortable to wear. |

I guess I'm the odd man out.
I like the old Nationals that Bob sells here on the site.
For me that are comfortable after I use two needle nose pliers to bend them (The part that bends over the finger tip) just so perfect. I spend some time to get that the way I like it best.
They are comfortable and don't slip off my fingers like the Dunlop one tend to do for me... I do like the Dunlop Plastic thumb pick.
I saw mention of the fact that Dunlop makes them in gauges and that is good, but for me the slipping thing was more important.
One thing also good about the Dunlop is they are in almost every music shop so easy to find.
