I had an elcapistan and found that it wasn't for me. I just don't seem to get along with any of the modeling stuff. It sounds great and is super well made but not for me.
My problem with the modeling delays is that after a bit I can hear the sample/algorithm and it messes up the music for me. Like when you start hearing the pitch correction on vocals. It's hard for me to get past it.
I really like the sound of my carbon copy but I would like to have a tap tempo feature.

So.. I got a supa-puss but it has so much distortion at the input that it was unusable. Way too much intermodulation distortion.

I guess to go true analog the next step is the Electro Harmonix memory boy. It has a tap feature.

Is there anything else out there ?

I may go with digital but not the emulation ones.

Empress Super Delay is nice. Sounds warm. Has lots of cool features but the basic sound is the thing. It is a combination of analog and digital. No modeling.

I'm hearing tons of IMD on the chase bliss demo along with the same noise as the supa-puss. I'll need to check one out in person. It looks pretty adjustable. Might work and might not.

I like the Analogman ARDX20 dual channel delay. No tap feature, but the sound is great.

Strymon has a new delay as of this year, called DIG. I could not have dreamed up a more perfect delay pedal. Google "Review Strymon Dig Dual Delay Pedal Guitar World".

Bob, I have the Wampler Faux Analog Echo and much prefer the tone of it to the El Capistan. It is much warmer but still remains very clear sounding. Cleaner and more clear than the carbon copy. I think the Faux tape echo would sound great as it is basically the same circuit as the faux analog echo but with added features. Keep us posted, I am a delay-aholic...

I am not really interested in modeled sounds. I may get a digital delay but it won't be one that emulates tape or bucket brigade. It looks like there is a real market for what I am looking for. I'll stick with my carbon copy until I come up with something. I will be checking out the stuff mentioned in this thread.

Thanks !

Check this out Bob, http://www.moltenvoltage.com/products/Molten_Voltage_Analog_Delay_Modifications_mods_for_Delaytion.html

It's a mod for the carbon copy that gives you tap tempo, delay ratios, 4 presets, and adjustable modulation.

Wow! I think that is what I've been looking for.... Love the CC more than any of my other stuff, unless I tote an actual Echoplex.

The original Moog MF-104 is really nice, but it doesn't really like Pedal Steel pickups.

I just ordered a Bellwether Analog Delay. IT looks like it might do the job.

I've had great luck with the old Ibanez AD9 Analog Delay, Hotone Eko tape emulator, MXR Carbon Copy and most other mid-line analog delays. I've tried several boutique units and found them incredibly overpriced.

First impressions of the bellwether analog delay are very very good. Let me give it a weeks worth of gigs and I'll report again.

I have been a/b ing it with the carbon copy and so far I like the basic sound a bit better.
I'll see how it holds up at work.

stick a compressor after the delay. With bags of compression. Any delay will sound better.
