No introduction needed for this evergreen, a tribute to Santo and Johnny's original. Probably the most famous steel guitar instrumental of all time. I have several live and recorded versions but here is a more modern rendition, with excellent backing by Carl Vilar...with a few twists... Keys of C and Eb. Steel guitars: West Coast C6 and Steelocaster A6.

Seems like this backing track was taken from guitarist, Larry Carlton's album who recorded Sleepwalk. I have the song and noticed it right away. View credits on this site and listen to the song here on the right bottom side of this page:

Not really a modern version . . .
This song was recorded in 1982.
A great version by Larry. |

As mentioned the credit for the backing goes to Carl Vilar, who recorded it in the style of Larry Carlton, and yes, pretty close. There are at least another three versions doing the rounds in other guitar forums, that are very similar. Warren Bennett also does a good Larry Carlton copy. The keyboard player I often play with does an exact copy but we modulate twice up to Gb.
"Modern" because it is a departure from the tradiitional sixties C - Am - Fm - G7 sequence of the S&J version. But a great tune lends itself to variations... also see Bobby Ingano's version

Nice Kay. It may be the age of the folks listening I think Steel Guitar Rag would be the hands down most requested. I also might be the type of music you liked.
Both are great.

Such a great and recognizable song. It never fails to stop people in their tracks when played in public. |

Very cool. Nice jazzy vibe. The chimes verse is a great touch, as is the harmonized melody. You made it your own! |

Gentlemen,
A thousand apologies for this late acknowledgement to your kind comments, the thread had slipped off the radar screen...
Gratefully,
