Falling squarely into the category of things that make you go "Hmmmm..?" --- An 8 string Cougar with 5 pedals and 2 knees that sits about 20" high.

The pictures tell the tale for the most part. I say 5x2, because there is a cross-shaft and bell cranks for a 2nd knee lever, but the knee lever is missing. Also, the guitar comes about to my knees (notice the man on the left in one of the pics for perspective). The rear legs telescope, but the front legs have been cut off. So, it will at least need 2 legs. It's definitely a project. No case.

I'm posting it for a friend of mine, so you can contact him directly if you want: Steve Fulton @ 512-428-9100
He's asking $200 plus the ride.

Here it is. If anyone can tell me how or why this came into being, I would really like to know.

Was it built or modified for a child to play ?
Just a thought.

That was my thought...but why an 8?
And it seems like it would have been set up with a 6th tuning with the combo of pedals it has....
Question

That's true... a 3 pedal,4 knee lever would seem more likely for a youngster to learn on.

guitar was built in a small town in northern Mi. by Freeman Cowger, a Nashville transplant. he started building Little Buddy , then designed his own. also s6 and s10. I live 50 miles from Fairview, home of the famous Cougar. Cowger was an excellent steeler. Jack

I play a Cougar (non pedal) with my band... I picked it up from a lady in Mio who said she got it from Freeman. I don't know what pickups he used, but the one in mine sounds amazing.

this is a great guitar if you have a kid that you'd like to get interested in the steel guitar... super nice guitar, can you imagine if Lloyd Green had a guitar like this when he started playing at 7 years old... I can't believe the price $200 ...
