Topic: Problems tuning the 5th string |

Hey Guys,
I can't seem to get the 5th string to get tuned in. When I started I released all the tension from the adjusters but when I start over, I get the A pedal just fine. However when I start on the C pedal it all goes haywire. The string tightens up and I'm back to square one. Please give me some advice.

Either reset the stop on the pedal to allow for longer travel
or shorten the throw on the C pedal by:
1- moving the pull rod further away from the cross shaft or
2-move the pull rod closer to the changer axle
or both

Lane... I have no idea what yer talking about leverage etc.

Leverage is what changes when you move from one hole to another (either on the bellcrank or the changer).
If you move from a lower hole on the bellcrank (close to the cross-shafts) to a higher one, the rod will move more for the same amount of pedal travel.
If you move on the changer from a lower (away from the axle, closer to the floor), the same amount of rod travel will pivot the finger more.
Increasing the leverage will make a bigger change happen in the same amount of pedal travel, but it will be a bit stiffer. If you don't want a slightly stiffer pedal, adjust the stop for more travel.
