Happy Birthday to both Rusty Young & Buddy Cage!!
Both turned 70 within a week from each other.
I don't understand why the country rock legends get very little respect or recognition on the forum?? They inspired an ENTIRE generation of people, to become Pedal Steel Guitar players.....including myself.
What up wit dat?? Yo! 😉 _________________ David "DJ" Rupert

Yes Chris, at "times." Not frequently enough though. You see how FEW even responded to the Rusty & Cage Birthdays here. Yet hundreds viewed the posts!
If it were a Nashville cat, their would have been a ton of responses. And their should be...for all of the legends.
It's that close minded thinking, that is endangering our beautiful Pedal Steel Guitar.
Have a great day, Chris! Peace. _________________ David "DJ" Rupert

But supposing they did look at the forum and you hadn't posted a wish - how embarrassing would that be! _________________ Make sleeping dogs tell the truth!

That is the earliest Poco footage I've ever seen; Jim Messina is playing bass.
Happy birthday Rusty Young! |

You are sooooo right David, so many of us steel players that started playing Steel in the 70's were turned onto steel by listening to those guys tracks

Thanks Mickey. It's VERY TRUE! I didn't really get into Pedal Steel Guitar, until hearing Panama Red on the FM Radio, in the 70's. I was hooked from that point on.
Of course, I listen & love the Nashville pros....A LOT, & go out my way to buy their CD's, & see them play LIVE.
Cage's views on many things, shouldn't keep him from being a Hall of Fame member, in St. Louis, but it has. He needs to be in there with Rusty Young, etc. He definitely DESERVES to be!
We're all getting older, & life is short.....I hope he gets the recognition he deserves, as a Pedal Steel Guitarist. _________________ David "DJ" Rupert

David, I started on Pedals in 1970 and the bands that turned me on were Poco of course, The New Riders of the purple Sage,Commander Cody with Bobby Black on steel, Linda Ronstadt with Sneaky Pete Kleinow on Steel, and of course the early Nashville stars with the big boys on Steel, like Lloyd, Buddy, Huey, Hal etc. I much prefered the music of that era.....Country music these days has changed

Great footage for sure. Looks like Rusty is playing a ZBCustom thru a drip-edge silverface. That ZB sound seems to be what alot of players were plugged into, at least on the left coast. It's what Al Perkins and Jerry Garcia played back when, Al seeking to emulate one of the steel players he so admired, Tom Brumley.
Sadly, the go-go dancers in bikinis have been replaced with light shows.
An era gone by for sure... _________________ John Brabant
