I saw the post on Kayton Roberts back in January, with some mention of Joe Talbot, but I couldn't dig up anything from past posts on Buford Gentry. Does anyone have some background on him? Who did he play with besides Hank? By the way, A couple of years ago, my brother bought me the 5-CD set, "The Thesaurus Transcriptions," of Hank Snow, which supposedly are from radio broadcasts never made available for the public and containing songs never recorded on any of his albums, along with different versions of those that were on albums. It's purely guitar, steel, bass and fiddle (and Hank). Some great steel playing, and, to me, obviously influenced by Don Helms. According to the booklet, 138 (all on these CDs) of these songs were recorded between 1950 and 1956, and Talbot played steel on all sessions except in '55' and 56' -- Buford Gentry played for Hank these two years. So, back to my original question, does anyone have some Gentry information -- and Talbot, too? |
