I need it like a hole in the head.. However, the price was very fair, and there are VERY few this clean .. This one still has the original string mute in place which is really rare for these guitars... I will be driving up to Canada for it next week... Gotta decide how I want to go about installing 4 knee levers on it ...bob

So nice. I scored a mint 400 a few years back for a song. I sold it like a dummy. Sometimes we need another hole in the head! |

Bob,
How is the Fender 800? Have you gotten it set up? I decided that I would like to try one myself, hope to find one soon...

Kevin.. Yes indeed, I "stepped in shit" with this find..
I am a lucky guy. Not many around this clean and original.. I have a full $740 into it!
It will also cost me about $30 in gas and an hour an a half steel lesson for my friend that went to Buffalo to pick it up for me.
I am anxious to have it here, and start setting it up.. My previous 2 800 steels were very stable, and very smooth and soft players. Pedal action rivaled the best modern steels IMHO. Knee levers when installed do have a longer throw on lowers, but its no worse than some older rodded steels, such as my P/R Marlen, and it is a non issue after playing it for an hour., Raises are fine, short and sweet usually..
Its a GOOD changer. The system Fender came up with was very accurate and reliable on these 2+2 changers with the 10 string models.
Just some very minor tweaking, and a well designed knee lever system, and the Fender cable steels could have competed with any pull system ever designed, for decades if they wanted.. as we know, they didn't want to... bob _________________ I'm over the hill and hittin'rocks on the way down!
