I met Ernie Renn briefly in Mankato Minnisota in 1984 when my wife and I had gone over the pond to work with a Minnisota band for 6 months. We arrived at the club on the Sunday and it was the last night of the band Ernie was in....he's a super super player and had an Emmons p/p going through 2 Peavey amps. We had a brief chat in the intermission, and he was looking forward to going to Jeff Newman's in a couple of week's time for the Buddy Emmons instruction week Very Happy ....his band let him sing the Ernest Tubb's "Walking the floor over you" He took off Mr Tubb's voice absoutely perfectly Very Happy

Thanks, kids! I think it was 1982 or 83. It was initially put it together for the Seagrams Battle of the Bands and was named "Seagram 7ths." We didn't win the contest, (and Seagrams wasn't interested in it,) so I renamed it Dirty Ernie Rag playing off of my nickname, hence Dirt Productions.

The contest wasn't a bust though. The promotion lady took note of our band MC, Shotgun Red. She took Red and his pal, Steve Hall - I went along, too. - to Ralph Emery's morning show. We thought Red was going to be a guest and talk about the contest. Little did we know we weren't booked, we were crashing the party. We all sat in the audience and of course Ralph noticed Red right away and it turned into a bit. Later that Sunday I went to see Buddy, Phil and the Sound Factory on Nashville Alive in the Stagedoor Lounge in the Opryland Hotel complex, I said Hi to Ralph, who remembered me. He said to have Steve get in touch with him as they were working on a new country music network, The Nashville Network, TNN.

Oddly enough Buddy called the house one day and left a message about a website issue by opening with, "Dirty Ernie, Dirty Bud." I called him back later and he told me that was what they called him years and years ago. (Go figure...)

You're right, Bob! Buddy and me sitting in the studio about three feet apart. (I choked. Our time was limited or I would've redone my solo.) This was the second take. The first take was WAY better. The swapping licks towards the end was totally amazing. We hadn't thought about an ending. (Well, duh!) At least I can say Buddy and I recorded an instrumental together. Mr. Green

Personnel: Me... Buddy Emmons (steel) - Sid Hudson (guitar) - Ansley Fleetwood (piano & session leader) - Henry Stryzlecki (bass) - Bill Reynolds (drums).

I do think it's kinda funny that 6 people rated it. 4 thumbs up - 2 thumbs down.

Sorry I kinda rambled on...
