On Friday, it was a bitter sweet day in Nashville.
I was honored to sing at the funeral service of Don Chapel. Don wrote "When The Grass Grows Over Me", and so many great country songs. Special thanks to Rusty Danmyer for playing steel guitar at the service.
After the service, we stopped by the Grand Ole Opry, hosted at The Ryman Auditorium to see Mel Tillis, and as we walked to stage left, I found steel guitar central, with Tommy White, Paul Franklin, and Johnny Cox. Johnny was playing Hal Rugg's steel guitar. I think he might have given it a little extra punch with Paul and Tommy watching. Johnny performs with Mel Tillis, and also on several shows when he's in Branson. It was quite a night of steel guitars in Nashville, and I was thrilled to have a birds eye view!

Nice shot of The Elite Three Rhonda. I guess when you are a superstar, you can just walk up to the stage and snap a photo.
It's staggering, the mountain of iconic steel guitar music that has come from that group.
Thanks for posting. Good to know you're a steel guitar nut too. I'm sure they are as impressed with you as you are with them. |
