I have a second backup 112 with a blown speaker from playing bass through it (!) so i need to replace it with a proper bass speaker. Needs to be 12" and 4 Ohm BUT...if there's one that might have high end response as well, I'd love that because I will also use it as a backup for my other 112. A tall order I know but any suggestions appreciated. _________________ Sierra S10 (three!), Peavey 112 and 115, Benoit dobro, Beard Model E dobro, Beard Roadophonic, MSA Superslide, Dean Nickless custom dobro |

For speaker:
...should cover the need for bass-range with a good high-range - probably an improvement over the original speaker when used for steel.
To make an NV112 reproduce somewhat decent lows for bass, you will also have to experiment with semi-closing the back of the cabinet, leaving a half-width opening - a cut-out - just above the existing panel at the bottom. A 1" thick layer of "carpet-foam" on the inside of the new panel will help to prevent it from becoming too "boomy".
Make sure the opening at the back is large enough for the amp to get sufficient cooling, as it isn't designed to be in a closed-back cabinet. A 12" wide by 4" tall opening should do to get the necessary "chimney effect" through to the ventilation at the top to prevent overheating. |

We offer the 121-4 SPKR 10634 96000416 $197.50, which is a bass speaker, but as indicated in the explanation from George, quite a bit of modication is required. You may order this speaker through our factory parts department by calling 1-877-732-8391, ext.8106. |

Tony, is the cab you are using have a sealed back? Playing bass with an open cab can stress a speaker out at higher volume. |

Len is absolutely correct. Open cabinet, blown speaker, doesn't matter if it's a bass or guitar speaker. At stage volumes, might get away with it in your bedroom. |

For about $150, you can find a pretty nice used Peavey TKO or TNT bass amp, and that is probably less than you'll pay for a new bass speaker. IMHO, your 112, even with a good speaker and sealed cabinet, is rather lacking for serious bass guitar work. |

Len, it's the standard PV112 combo amp. I have two of them and until recently I was using the older one to play bass at informal house jams, fairly low volume, and there were no issues. Really, I'm hard pressed to tell the difference if I was playing through a bass amp....it sounded just fine. It is the standard open back as found on a 112.
Donny, I have been considering simply buying a small bass amp and be done with it, but that would still leave me with the 112 with a blown speaker. The points about closing the back make sense so thanks for that info. _________________ Sierra S10 (three!), Peavey 112 and 115, Benoit dobro, Beard Model E dobro, Beard Roadophonic, MSA Superslide, Dean Nickless custom dobro |
