A living legend of the steel guitar in my opinion. taken today at Dave's house with my Bethel guitar. My good friend Al Wrinkle and I had taken Dave out to lunch and then came back to horse around with steel guitars a little bit

A great guy and a great player. I remember when Dave was the "house" player at The Rio Palm Isle in Longview, TX when we'd come through there with Watson in the late 70s/early 80s. Always fun to hear him and visit !!

Dave was a great player! Many years ago, I had an album with him playing "Sweet Georgia Brown", which somehow got lost during my college days. I've searched (unsuccessfully) for many years to find another copy. Oh Well

I credit Dave with hooking me on pedal steel guitar. I was raised in northeastern Oklahoma, and one year about 45 years ago at the Tulsa State Fair, ShoBud had a display and did demonstrations every hour or two. Shot emceed the demo and played dobro, and Dave (Shot called him Muskrat) played the steel. I had no idea such music could come from this instrument. It wasn't long after that, I bought one having no idea that I was starting an addiction that would never subside. Thanks Dave, I have thoroughly enjoyed the ride.

I also have a '74 lacquer P/P, with wood necks, and a showroom condition Sho-Bud Super Pro.

Isn't this Dave behind Roy?

Pic taken in Phoenix, 1960.

Was he playing steel on this gig?

Dave is my friend. I have got to jam with him on several occasions and all the good things that have been said about him and his playing are true. One of my favorite Bransonites. I am sure he played good years ago and he still plays good today.

Back in the 70's got Dave's number from Jim Evans because I was having some minor adjustment problems with my Emmons. Drove to Dave's house and he adjusted the guitar and played for about 3 hours of jaw-dropping stuff for me. Wouldn't take any money from me for the repairs. Really impressed me with his playing and hospitality. I think he had been on the the road with Hank Jr. at the time. Super nice guy.
