I found this tinnitus remedy on Reddit. It works for some people, depending on the cause of the tinnitus.

Place the palms of your hands over your ears with fingers resting gently on the back of your head. Your middle fingers should point toward one another just above the base of your skull. Place your index fingers on top of you middle fingers and snap them (the index fingers) onto the skull making a loud, drumming noise. Repeat 40-50 times. Some people experience immediate relief with this method. Repeat several times a day for as long as necessary to reduce tinnitus. Dr. Jan Strydom, of A2Z of Health, Beauty and Fintess.org.

This always works for me.

It worked for me (for now). The description was a bit confusing for me (the snapping index finger part). I put the palms my hands over my ears and aimed my middle fingers at each other at the back of my head (the lower part a bit above the neck) then put my index fingers on top of my middle fingers and slid them downwards (they thump lightly against the lower part of my head) and just count 50 or so repetitions (less than a minute).

And it works and it feels kinda strange to not have a perpetual background noise in my life. No idea about long term effects of this solution but I can't complain if a minute of work gives me multiple hours of calm.

My otologist has never mentioned anything like this, but I can't see where it would hurt to try it. Neutral

That is cool. I just tried it (even though I am not experiencing any ringing at the moment). Essentially, you are tapping your index fingers against your lower skull, which results in some pretty powerful and deep tom tom like sounds.

ok, so while i am trying this .. and feeling like a dork, trying not to laugh and checking for someone videoing me..

it did reduce the amount of white noise (for lack of a better term) for a period of time.

edited , it lasted for only a few minutes.

Pretty interesting. Whether it works by distraction or acupressure, who cares? The fingers seem to land off the occiput, at pressure points.

I've tried several times today and I don't notice any change so far.

If it works for you, you'll notice an improvement immediately. The remedy wears off after a while. Often I have severe ringing when I wake up in the morning. This does help to relieve it.

I just did it and it seems to work, to a point. The white noise is reduced and my hearing is a little better. I'm going to keep trying this to see if it helps. Thanks!

I read about this method here on the forum a few years ago and I use it quite a bit. It does provide me some temporary relief.

I think that sitting down with our ears below the ride cymbal has a detrimental effect. Whoa!

I've been a multiple, multiple abuser of my ears for decades. High and low pitched machinery, artillery, lots of shooting (small bore and big bore), loud bands, loud music. Too many years and too many abusess. I'll try anything at this point. The white noise is unrelenting. The doc says I'm a half step away from hearing aids.
But, I did try this approach and it did help some. I'm going to continue with it and see what happens. Funny how the doc never mentioned this.

I've used that technique for a few years now. It only works for a few minutes for me, but any relief helps.

For anyone having trouble figuring out how to do it, there's a link to a short video of the technique here: http://health.learninginfo.org/tinnitus.htm
