Does anyone have a copy of either of these lessons? I lost mine many years ago and they were both old friends. Or if you know where they might be available I would be very grateful for that information.

I believe your talking about Hal Rugg's instructional material. I have it on cassette, not yet changed over to outdated CD. By the time I get this recorded on CD, the old 8 track will be on it's second run.

That's close, but it's missing some stuff. I played the heck out of that one. That was one of the first courses I purchased back in the early 80's, for $5.00 I think. I bought that one, and "A Manual Of Style" at the same time. Both highly recommended.

I know I still have the Manual Of Style, not sure about the 1-2-3 song. I'll check through my steel courses/ stuff and let you know.

Actually, I used 3 fingers...I guess I cheated... Embarassed

You can play this same key of G tab completely through a Key of "A" blues.
It becomes an A Dorian when used in this manor which works well with all the chords in a blues song.

You can also play any portion of this same key of G tab over a D7 chord or an Am chord.
Don't take much imagination to see other possibilities by moving this tab around the neck.

I used to own this one too. I was so excited when it arrived from US only to find the record had the large hole in the middle but our turntables and records had the small hole. It played anyway of course.

I seem to recall the flip side was a host of different chord progressions, very basically recorded over which the steel run could be played. There had to be 40 or more. The sheet with the tab on it listed all the progressions as well.

I only recently found the little 45 again (but now I have no turntable) but the tab I've lost years ago somewhere so thanks for the copy.

I've been playing those licks for years, in part, so I guess I did learn them once.

Chris,

Surely not wishing to start an argument here, but I seem to recall it a bit differently. I looked through all of my steel material last eve., and unfortunately I no longer have it.

At the end of the first bar, I recall another 12B on the 6th string, and a couple of other notes as well later on.

Since I no longer have the actual course in hand, I cannot cite the actual source...

And yes, the flip side had around 40 progressions as I remember it - I had fun with that 45!

Bruce Bouton's talk video details that lick. Maybe someone has Bruce's tabbed out, to compare?

Jeff Newmans "No Speed Limit III" also covers a variation of this run as one of the sections it covers. Great stuff!!

I'm looking for a sound clip, I'm sure I have one.
The tab seems to be correct or at least the path is correct.
I remember because I made a graph of the tab showing why it would work over a ii V7 I Jazz chord progression.

William had a lesson on this $5 you might contact him

Don, That's it!

I was sure hoping I wasn't playing it "wrong" all these years, as it has been about 38 years since I actually learned that song.

The second image labeled "FAMOUS" is it to a "T".

How time flies - I had forgotten that Hal Rugg's name was on this one as well.

well..they 'famous' one is a little confusing with my eyesight and the t's and b's or whatever next to the numbers and the 2's underneath even under the seventh string position, etc. the dale hanson version is exactly right the way it's written.

I did this a while back because my eyes would not allow me to see the hand written version of the original very well. For clarification only...
