Topic: Fuse type for old Peavey LTD or other weird stuff. |

| I'm looking for the right fuse for this old amp. I put a new fuse holder in it but I don't know for sure what size it needs. I'm experiencing some weird stuff in the old amp and it's done it twice in the last couple of weeks. It's just went off with the light off while I was playing it and when I turned it off and then back on it came back on and played fine the rest of the night. What would cause that to happen? |

If the fuseholder you put in was the exact same fuseholder as before, then use the same fuse as before. If the fuseholder is different, all bets are off. There should be some spring to the fuse when you put it in, it should not go in too easily.
It could also be the power switch, or your soldering job.

| I don't have a clue what fuse was in it cause it was destroyed when it was messed up. I'm not the greatest at soldering and it could be that but it's just weird to do that. The fuse holder that's in it now works fine and doesn't stick out far enough to get smashed again. This is the third one in it cause the second one was a bit long but it was all I could find at the time. |

I'm assuming you have a Peavey Session / LTD. The Session 400 uses a 6 amp fuse. The LTD (according to what I can find) is a 200 W version of the session. I'm guessing start with a 3 amp fuse, if it blows, go up one amp until you get to 6 amps. If it blows, there may be something wrong.
I am open to correction...

In another post here, there is a picture of the back of an LTD. It clearly shows it calling for a 6 amp fuse.

Should be the same as the Session 400 as they are the same circuit and power amp. A 6 amp fast blow would be the one to use.

My mother always told me "Don't ever argue with Ken Fox."
However, my father always told me "Use a Slo-Blo fuse when you're feeding an inductive load", in this case, a power transformer.
Avoid unintended fireworks.

| Peavey never used Slo-Blo fuses in the amps, Craig. At least not the type used in Fender amps. |

My mother never mentioned Hartley Peavey, so I will go ahead and argue with him.
Ken, I use fast-blow fuses, but only in the DC circuit following a power transformer or as a speaker fuse.

Frank, although I'm sure you never questioned the amp guru, Mr. Ken Fox about the correct fuse; I just pulled mine out from my old LTD. Once again, Ken is "spot on" with his reference to the type fuse for Peavey's LTD as well as a number of other Peavey amps. Mine reads 32V, Buss AGC 6. I have had a number of Peaveys down through the years and also several Fender tube amps early in my playing years and I never remember seeing a "slo-blo" type fuse on anything but the Fender amps. Fast acting fuses only on Peavey amps as Ken has already stated. Good luck with your LTD, they are great amps. Ken worked his majic on mine with his "intense mod" several years ago. | Call me a dumba$$ cause I never seen that it does in fact clearly state on the back of the amp to use 6 amp fuses haha! I've got it hooked up nicely now and am good to go. Thanks all of the friends here! |
