I'm a tube amp user and know the problems I would have if I turned on my tube amp head , plugged in a guitar , and hit a few chords , while the speakers were NOT plugged in !!.....Bye Bye transformer (s) !!......I'm told that I can do the same hook up with a Soid State amp and NOT have the same problem ....Is this true ....I really don't want to experiment to find out !!.....Thanks in advance ......Jim

BTW ...The amp head in question is a Fender Mustang V v.2 .........Thanks ....JIm

Transistor power amps don't care if you have a speaker load or not. No risk there. With tube amps, yes, they must have a proper load at the output to protect the output transformer.

But, unlike tubes, power transistors will die nearly instantaneously if you run them into a short circuit. I accidentally used some speaker wires with a bare spot in them (damn mice) and in something like a tenth of a second, expensive damage ensued.

unless some clever engineer puts a resistor in to control the impedance *just in case*
