Topic: Reverb tank for Webb |

| I have a Webb 14-E that purchased in approx. 1982. The reverb is not working. I have not pulled the tank to inspect the connections yet but if I have to replace it, it is the original, amp s/n 1196, any suggestions on a brand? I'm seriously considering selling amp and getting a Steelaire. My Webb sounds great and I currently use a out board reverb unit but I'm tired of lugging this thing around. Its too heavy. Thanks, Ed |

| I had a Webb and now have two Steelaires. Loved the Webb...Love the Steelaires better especially the weight. |

If it helps any, I had constant reverb issues with my 1978 Webb, serial number 979. Had it in the shop numerous times and it was always the circuit in the preamp section, never the tank itself. Like most, I've gone to lighter weight options.

The reverb in my old Webb (#976) stopped working. I found that the heat sink on the reverb driver transistor broke off, causing the transistor (2N3053) to overheat and fail. If that turns out to be your amp's problem, it's an easy fix for someone who can solder and doesn't mind working on printed circuit boards. I used a larger heat sink on the replacement transistor. It's been over 15 years and it hasn't failed since, although I don't use the Webb these days nearly as much as I used to.
If the tank is bad, the Mod tanks are getting a lot of positive comments these days. Maybe they have one that's compatible with the Webb's.

| Ditto, to the Mod brand of reverb tanks. Huge improvement in my Nashville 112 over the factory Accutronics pan. Only cost $19.95 from Antique Audio (I think that is the company name...in AZ) Get the make and model number off your old reverb tank and contact them for a cross reference for a Mod replacement. Even if the reverb tank turns out to not be the problem, you are still way ahead of the game. Have you cleaned the RCA plug contacts on the reverb pan? This sometimes works miracles on reverb units. |

The absolute solution for a sweet MOD tank reverb solution is a VanAmps pedal. I used to import these to the UK and they are simply the best for amps without reverb or low quality tanks. Plus they look great.

One great feature of the WEBB is the remote reverb control.
I'm itching to try a new Mod tank in my WEBB, just because I love that feature.
A great deal of the weight is in the JBL E series speaker. I replaced it with an EPS 15, and the weight reduction was dramatic. I've mounted a TC m 300 in the back of mine, and run it through the effects loop in the back. The rack lives there now. It's great when you go to solo on a slow ballad, and you can jack up the reverb with the remote, just a bit just for the solo. Do it a few seconds before the crowd is looking. It's a fun trick. If the Mod tank helps my WEBB as much as it did my NV 112, that would be killer.
Anybody with the short pan try the Mod replacement ? |

Hey All,
I bought this Webb from Ed this past winter. Ed paid to have a reputable shop fix the reverb before he listed it for sale. Well, the reverb wasn't working when it was shipped to me. I figured something loosened up on transport, and reset the rca plugs on the the tank, and voila, it worked again.
Well, a few gigs later and it started acting up, and resetting the plugs didn't work this time. I have been using an RV3 for now, but would like to figure out what is really wrong.
My question is, will the green led light up if the reverb circuit (in particular the transistor) is bad? Curious?
By the way Ed is a real nice person and by no means do I infer anything but positive feedback on the transaction with him. When he sold it to me the reverb was in working order to the best of his knowledge.

| I have a older Webb and did have reverb problems, mainly distortion breakup. I though my reverb wasn't working and so I unplugged the leads in and out of the reverb can and cleaned them. I have not had one ounce of trouble since and have fixed my problem. I've had Fender guitar amps with RCA's for the reverb and had to clean them once in a while due to oxidation. Try it and see if that works, I love my Webb. |

There should be a name (Accutronics, Gibb, Hammond) etc with a 7 digit number/alpha stamped on it, eg 4AB2C1B
There's a cross red in forum and Internet for tanks as Mr Webb used (3) diff models over his production years. |
