Encore owners, which pickup do you have, humbucker or single coil? Has anyone done a A-B comparison between the two?
Mine has the humbucker installed (custom-made for the Encore I believe), but I've also got the single-coil to try when I get a chance. Just wanted to know if anyone else has tried them both. |

I have an Encore with the single coil and a Stage One with the Humbucker. They are both pretty nice sounding. The Single coil sounds more crisp and bright kind of with a growl, and the Humbucker is more mellow and warm. I notice that sometimes I get some noise when I record direct with the single coil. It's a matter of taste, but I like them both for different reasons. _________________ Zum Encore, Zum Stage One, Fender 2000, Harlan Bros., Multi-Kord, |

I think I remember where Doug said that the Encore and Stage One use the same humbucker. I usually prefer a single coil sound, yet I've found this humbucker to be able to host a wide range of EQ settings comfortably. Coming from the six string electric, it took me a while to wrap my head around the idea of turning the amp's bass way up high and the treble down low, but that really broke the thin sound I was getting initially.
Sometimes I also use an EHX Knockout Attack EQ, and that gets a really good single-coil sound out of the humbucker. I can set the sound up for a more aggressive classic sound, and it will not be ice-picky or too sharp on the response. You can really dig in. Still, I'd be interested in hearing what a True Tone sounds like in these great designs and builds. Although, I still feel there is some Ozark folk-magic somewhere in the mix. |

My Encore sounds so good with the humbucker that I hesitate to mess with it. I'll report back if I ever get around to trying the single coil. |
