The six string banjo is a featured instrument with current hipster 'Americana' bands. It imparts an ersatz old timey banjo flavor without actually having to learn how to play the banjo. Just play your standard open guitar chords and there you are. |

You can also think of 6 string banjo as a completely different sound or mood in it's own light... as with all the soundtrack work Tommy Tedesco did through the 60's and 70's, Ennio Morricone Westerns and so on, like "Once Upon A Time In The West". That single-string flatpicked banjo sound is very evocative in that genre... _________________ Stop by the Steel Store at: www.markvanallen.com

Funny....I always thought that if I got a 6-string banjo I would string it up to Nashville tuning.
BUT, I got a 5-string instead. |

Todays six string banjo such as Keith Urban plays is tuned just as his regular tele is. Same with Taylor Swift, just as her taylor is. _________________ Justice Prolite Sd 10 Mullen D10

Guys.. I have been having a ton of problems with my email.. I keep getting error messages, and some guys have said they sent several that I didn't get.. My apologies...
In any case, I had a sale here through the forum,, but the UPS shipping quote to Phoenix was almost as much as the banjo, and the buyer declined, and I don't blame him one bit.. I do have a local buyer... bob _________________ I'm over the hill and hittin'rocks on the way down!

Same here. One of the little theater groups did a play, "Cottonpatch Gospel." A band was thrown together, with two of us doing the string parts. The other guy played guitar and six-string banjo. I played guitar and dobro. We put a .013 on the top, and it sorta went OK.The last couple of nights, the other guy wasn't there, but he only played guitar. I took the money they'd paid me, and bought a pretty good 5-string. It was fun. |
