Topic: Line Out-Line In Cable Type |

I've decided I want to try using two Cube 80XL's. I plan to go from Line Out on one to Line In on the other. That will be a 1/4 phone to 1/8 mini.
I can use an adapter just to try it out but will eventually want to make a cable with right angle plugs.
What type of cable do I need? I am assuming if it's line level then I need a regular guitar or microphone cable and not a speaker cable correct?
Would a microphone cable be any better than a guitar cable?
I have a passive direct box as well. Would I gain anything by using it in the chain? I know when I went Piezo acoustic guitar to the board a passive direct box really helped. Or if it's already line level will the DI box do anything at all?

Standard guitar cable would be fine for a line level signal. Right angle 1/4" plugs are fairly common, but the 1/8th inch version are more rare, and you'll need a sturdy one. Here's Switchcraft's version.....

Just make up your own cable (make a spare one, too). By the way, the stereo plug won't matter in this case. Both channels are summed together in the amp, so just use the tip connection of the 1/8th inch plug.
No mic cable, or direct box, is needed...just a good quality guitar cable of sufficient length.

A lot is going to depend on whether you have ground-loop issues... my XL40 is ground-lifted, but I understand the XL80 has a three-wire line cord.
So try it with an adapter and see if you get any hum... if you do, you may end up with a hum isolator box inline. Make sure to try it in the configuration you're going to use on-stage... plugging both amps into the same outlet strip will make life easier, but if that's not the final configuration be aware that it gets worse when you use different outlets.
