Hi All,
Just signed up! You can all call me Drew. I wasn't sure where the best place to introduce myself might be, but here seemed as good a place as any.
A bit about me: I've been playing steel for about 8 years.I play an Emmons Black Rock through a Princeton Reverb Reissue. There's a link to some of my music in my sig ('Farther Down The Line' and "Darkest Hour' have me playing steel on them).
Look forward to chatting to you!

Welcome Drew! It's a friendly place, enjoy!
Off topic: I was in Melbourne in Sept 2007 with my band. We played a few "tiny" shows in the burbs (Dandenong, Frankston & Bentleigh) but stayed in the heart of the city, not far from the Queen Victoria Market. We got to spend a week in your fine city, and I loved every minute it of it! I even got to see one of my favorite guitarists (Ian Moss) at a small theatre on Flinders (The Forum I believe).
I've rambled enough - welcome! |

No worries, Sean. Ramble away!
That was a good get, seeing Mossy while you were here in Melb. He only seems to pop his head up every now and then these days. He's certainly one of the best musos we've ever produced, and The Forum is a great venue for that kind of thing. _________________ http://www.reverbnation.com/drewgallus |

I was lucky enough to see Cold Chisel back in the early 80's here in Canada, opening for Ted Nugent (odd to be talking about that on a steel guitar forum). That show literally changed my life as a musician. A band I had NEVER HEARD OF came in and completely blew us away. Jimmy Barnes on Vocals and Ian Moss on Guitar was the 1 - 2 punch, but I've since learned the importance of Phil Small and the other members.
I will say - I absolutely love the musicians that come from the Australian music scene. It's a alive and well (and very welcome) here in Canada. |

Hi Drew,
Welcome aboard! You have joined possibly the best ever resource for those interested in, or who play, this bewitching, improbable collision of precision engineering and luthiery known as the steel-guitar.
You'll find there are quite a few Australian steel-players here, so you should be able to get some pretty good advice with questions you may have. We're probably the friendliest bunch on the 'net.
Enjoy the trip. With this instrument it seems to be a perpetual journey to a destination that seems forever just beyond the horizon. _________________ The steel guitar is a hard mistress. She will obsess you, bemuse and bewitch you. She will dash your hopes on what seems to be whim, only to tease you into renewing the relationship once more so she can do it to you all over again...and yet, if you somehow manage to touch her in that certain magic way, she will yield up a sound which has so much soul, raw emotion and heartfelt depth to it that she will pierce you to the very core of your being. |

Couldn't have put it better if I swallowed a dictionary, Ned!
Thanks for your words of welcome, fellas... and a particularly hearty g'day to all you Aussie and Kiwi steelers!

G'day Shane! I'm actually the guy who bought your Emmons Black Rock all those years ago. Small world!
Speaking of gigs, I caught the set you did with Van Walker the other week at the Northcote Social Club - sounded great, although the sound guy had you way too low in the mix (why are so many of these guys so petrified of the steel guitar??)
Anyhow, nice to be talking to you on the other side of the world from a few suburbs away. _________________ http://www.reverbnation.com/drewgallus |

Welcome, Drew! I'm a big fan of the Feral Swing Cats. I caught them at the St. Louis show a few years back. |

Of course Drew, now it's all flooding back. That was a great guitar that one, I guess that's the one you're still playing?
Yes,sometimes when you don't have your own sound guy on hand they have no idea how to handle a pedal steel. Glad you enjoyed it anyhow.
Cheers, Shane. |

Welcome to the Forum Drew. Lots of very interesting and helpful folks here.
If you are interested, I can put you on our email list for the get-togethers we have up here in Sydney. We don't have them on a regular basis but you never know one might tie in with you visiting Sydney at some stage in the future?
We had Mal Spottiswood from Melbourne attend our latest one. I'm sure he would like to catch up with a fellow steel player as he said they seem to be few and far between down south. ( We are spoiled here in Sydney as we seem to have the "cream of the crop" right on our door step ).
Cheers, Nick. _________________ Mullen SD10G2 4x5 (Black), Carter S-10 3x5, Peavey Session 400, Peavey Nashville 112, Fender MS80, Boss DD3, Goodrich and Telonics volume pedals, Alesis QuadraVerb, Fender Strats x2, Fender Nashville Power Tele, Takamine NP-15C, Boss TU-12, Peterson VS-11, Strobo-flip and strobo-clip tuners, D2Fcovers,seat,legs, amps, guitars. |
