What are you guys using and what do you consider the best buy for chords with your steel guitar? I haven't bought chords in 20 years! |

I've been using the George L cables for maybe over 20 years and haven't bought another chord yet. I'm just now starting to have a few problems and thought maybe I need to find out what's out there these days. |

I just bought a Monster cord, it works good. It has gold ends, and seems ok to me. I only use it for guitar straight to the amp. I use the volume pedal input in front and effects in, in the back of the amp. So the cords there aren't so sensitive. _________________ You can observe a lot just by looking |

When it comes to chords for steel guitar, I like to stick with mostly majors but do throw in an augmented or diminished once in a while. |

Funny Erv.
I have a question that no one I have asked has really been able to answer. I know gold is a better conductor than nickel (which is what I believe most plugs are plated with), but does it really make that much of a difference on a guitar cord to justify the added expense? _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . Gold is a better conductor, but unless its used on a long term or permanent connection it won't make any difference.
On the typical guitar cord that is plugged in, unplugged, the nickel is just as good. Also consider almost all 1/4" jacks are not gold plated either.
The "audiophiles" may disagree but in reality for "normal" use, as most musicians use guitar cords, its a waste of $$ to use gold plated plugs and jacks. |

George L's for me.
I'm still using some Lawrence cables I purchased back in the 1980's and they work great.

Sometimes, when playing a new song, you just can't buy a good "chord" when you can't figure it out...

Richard,
As jack mentioned. Gold is an excellent conductor, but a very soft metal, and wouldn't be durable enough for stage use.
Though it's an excellent conductor, I've never seen a set of gold jumper cables.

I was just curious as to why people get all worked up over gold plugs. I never could see the purpose. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . I think gold looks good. I don't know that I get worked up over it though. I am sure it will wear off the plug, but it does look rather stylish. _________________ You can observe a lot just by looking |

But when they are plugged in, you can't see the gold. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . Playing for 54 years and still counting. |

You're right Richard, but it did look real nice in the blister pack when I got it off the rack in the music store.
I would say the gold on the plug gives about as much service, as the aluminum dome adds highs on speakers...not much. _________________ You can observe a lot just by looking |

Chord or cord this is one of the problems with the English language.
The correct spelling could mean a world of difference.
For chords I agree with Erv, major and minors CHORDS are most used.
For cords I like George L. _________________ Private one on one lessons available

Well, depending on the derangement, I mean arrangement, of the song, I may choose to use demented or argumentative chords.
For CORDS, I use a short George L from the guitar to my Rotochoir (which I adapted to mount on my Stroboflip holder), another short George L from the Rotochoir to my Danelectro EQ (which I put a leg clip on so I can have it on the guitar close to me - used for Dobro simulation), another slightly longer George L from the EQ to my Damage Control Liquid Blues distortion pedal on the floor (this cord also is used if I gig with no effects and just run it from the guitar to the volume pedal), That's where my George L love ends. I use a short cord, either Livewire or Proco (not sure without looking at it) from the Liquid Blues to the volume pedal. From the volume pedal to the amp, I have a 20' and a 10' heavy cable from either Whirlwind, Proco, or Livewire (again, I would have to get them out and look at them). I quit using long George L cables to the amp because they end up getting coiled and don't lay flat and the drummer tripped over one once (yes I saw the post on how to coil them to prevent this, but it was too late by then). I also have had a couple of musician friends over to see if they could hear a difference between the George L's and the other brands, and nobody could hear any difference. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . Erv, I noticed you over looked minors, I thought one had to spend some time in the minors first and based on ones progression he goes to the majors _________________ Ray Thomas
