My friend Len Amaral asked me to post this picture of his new D-12 MSA SuperSlide. 24 strings... yikes!

Extended C6 tuning with a George L pickup

E9add 6, add 7 with an Alumitone pickup

And a snark tuner on each neck! Way to go, Len.

...is that a Guyatone D-8 on the far right?

Thanks Doug for posting the picture of my new MSA D-12 and yes that adds up to 24 strings.

I want to thank Reece Anderson and Kyle Bennet at MSA for building this one of a kind instrument and I have not had to do anything but tune up and play it. George L on the C6 gives a nice beefy jazz tone and E/9-6add7 with the Alumitone pickup has a very nice high end almost classic sound.

Also, that is a Guyatone D-8 on right.

Regards,

Lenny

Hi Lenny,

Happy to see you have the MSA D-12 lap. Great looking steel!!!
Appears a lot of "challenging" playing time on the horizon.

Hey Howard:

What pickups do you have in your D-12?

I think they are George L's......I'm not the original owner of this D12.....I intended to make this a D 10/9 (prefer a wider string spacing) but haven't gotten around to it.....

Hey Howard:

That's the Flexible design about the MSA Super Slide as you are able to change out the strings to a lower amout and MSA has fitted plugs to fill in the tuning head space if you should remove them.

I thought I was the only guy unstable enough to have a D-12 lap steel. To me it is one of a kind. I am waiting for the legs to be made and using a piano stand for the time being as I don't have enough lap for this lap steel.

Huge difference in tone with two different pickups.

Be well,

Lenny

I saw one of those in person at Dallas last year - it was a beast. it had a sold tag on it later that day.
that is really cool being so flexible on the setup.

my question would be what kind of bar are you going to use?

By extended C6th do you mean Reece's -

D
B
G
E
C
A
G
E
C
A
F
D

I got a used one not long ago, set up for twelve but with the bridge & nut to go to ten strings included - which I did almost immediately. Twelve strings afford you an amazing chord selection, but unless you've got transfer credits in brain surgery or writing the Lord's Prayer on the head of a pin, jeez they're close together! I've put the old standard PSG tenner on there now:

G
E
C
A
G
E
C
A
F
C

But next time around, I'm gonna dump the low C and add the top D back in, it kinda splits the difference between those two.

D
G
E
C
A
G
E
C
A
F

Yes, Reese's C6 12 string tuning and my own compilation 12 string based on a partial E9. Think the first 5 strings with your A pedal in on E9 pedal steel and the other 7 strings a 6th & 7th. Using a volume pedal I can get some nice swells and rolls on the first 5 strings.

Bars: I use Tribotone 7/8 10 string bars and Jay's Stone slides.
