I've always enjoyed my trips to Nashville, and my wife has encouraged frequent returns. She loves John England and the Western Swingers. We plan our trips around Mondays, and I've missed every Time Jumpers show because of her love of them.
I've really become a fan of Tommy Hannum. His playing is outstanding, and his tone is incredible.
We've seen many a great player in Nashville, and my wife now watches the steel players because of my fascination. She's NEVER commented on tone. She repeatedly mentions how lush Tommy's tone is.
He's a real friendly fellow as well. Not really looking for a huge response, just wanted to voice my admiration of a great player. |

Iv'e always been impressed with Tommny's playing on the John England albums. IMHO, Tommy has his own style which is easily picked out from all the other high profile players who basidcally to my ear sound much alike.

I first met Tommy in the 80's on his first gig with Jack Greene . He had a stack of "steel guitar flash cards" with all his charted notes that he'd written up on the trip from Nashville , TN to Cortland , NY .
I was the stage manager for that days show and we talked a lot that day about how much we each were making {don't believe him still .... but he said we made more here than he did in Nashville /per gig} and also about this new guy named "Ricky Van Shelton" that he was going to work with .
Needless to say his playing was as great as any steel picker up to that day that I'd ever heard ! ..... been a life long fan since .

I first heard about Tommy Hannum in a band called the Rosslyn Mountain Boys, they used to play clubs in Georgetown, Washington DC also various gigs in MD & VA, He was amazing back then.

| I haven't seen or heard Tommy since the Rosslyn Mountain Boys days, he had a super clean touch and tone, and speed I could only marvel at. That was nearly forty years ago now, I imagine that he has improved his chops some more since then.... |

Tommy's "NOT Rocket Science" CD is, hands down, one of the FINEST pedal steel albums ever made.

| Tommy Hannum is one of Nashville's finest steel players. He's also a fantastic Tele and Dobro player. University studied musician. Very advanced knowledgeable player. I agree about "Not Rocket Science". I'm proud to be able to call him a friend. If you ever get a chance to see him live in Nashville, don't miss the opportunnity. |

| People on the forum will be impressed that Tommy knows how to make the steel guitar sound just like a banjo…he uses a special bar and plays the banjo part on Jerry Reed's East Bound and Down. |
