This Friday night 8/17 at the Clackamas County Fair we will be performing three sets at 6:30pm. 8:00 pm and 9:30 pm at the Main Lawn Stage. The first set will feature Joni’s daughter Olivia, who has just released a very impressive new CD of her own, and the remaining two sets will feature Joni doing what she does so well, weaving stories in song with a golden voice. With my brothers Lex Browning, Brud Giles, Don Campbell on board this promises to be a memorable evening of great music, and it comes with an entire fairground full of other things to do as well. The following afternoon (Saturday 8/1 we will be performing at the City of Carlton’s Walk in the Park from 1:00pm until 3:00pm. Hands down one of our favorite artists anywhere, and easily one of our favorite events of the summer, featuring the a slice of best the Northwest has to offer. You will find amazing food, some of the best wines in the world, fantastic handmade art , jewelry and more, a fabulous antique auto show and great bands on a big stage for two days. We have been fortunate enough to have played at this festival before and are gassed to have been asked to return this year! In addition to Joni and myself, John Bunzow, Don Campbell and Steve Shroy will be playing this show, those of you familiar with the NW music scene know these guys are no slouches and will easily understand why I am a wee bit pumped about this show….a map to Wennerberg Park can be found at http://www.carltonswalkinthepark.com/maps.html
If you are not familiar with Joni Harms, I can tell you that she is one of the foremost living singers and songwriters in the American Western music tradition, with over a dozen albums to her credit, multiple appearances at the Grand Old Opry and Carnegie Hall, and more awards than I can keep track of. She maintains a busy touring schedule, much of it overseas where American roots music seems to be more popular than here in the USA. When she is not traveling and performing she returns home to her family’s homestead ranch near Canby, where there’s always plenty of work to do. A bona-fide barrel-racing champion and rodeo queen in her day, Joni is, as the Aussies will tell you, “Fair Dinkum!” If authentic western music is your cup of tea, you really want to be there, and we’ll be looking for you from the big stage http://www.joniharms.com

| Well, I'm jealous. I'd jump at the chance to hear her sing. Maybe the most clear-as-a-bell, naturally pleasant sounding Western style voice I have ever heard. There's a JBL somewhere inside of her, Dave. She's on my iPod. |

We had two days of great shows, not the least of which was a debut set for Joni's daughter Olivia, showing off the tunes from her new album, "Canby" all co-written by herself and/or Joni. As a youngster she rocks it up a bit more than her mom does, but it's clear that her roots are all the way country in tunes like "Maybe Baby" "I've Got a Feelin'" and "Canby". Those of us in the band were frankly blown away by this new product which, like Joni's new album "Harms Way," was produced in Nashville by by Mitchell Brown.
'Liv took the stage looking and sounding like a pro, chatting up the audience with ease, and taking special delight in inviting her mom up to the stage to sing with her after so many years of having it the other way around. Naturally Lex Browning and the boys laying it down behind her only added to the bigtime presence.
I'm hoping just maybe there's room in the market next to young Taylor for a girl from a Century Farm in Oregon who can write and sing "I'm 4-H and FFA" with authenticity, because this savvy 17-year-old has got something going on. The remaining four sets of the weekend were backing Joni, and as usual it was about as much fun as a steel picker can have except that it was all over too soon. Her songs and her voice are golden and we never get enough of her here at home. Thanks to those who made it out to join us, this was a precious time!
