MAN, what an awesome week of steel guitar action, I just couldn't help myself and had to post (and I sure hope it doesn't sound like I'm trying to rub it in Wink )

Started off with a great night in Wichita Falls where I saw my buddy, the great Rick Price with Jake Hooker's incredible band, then Ray Price (who still shows NO signs of slowing down) featuring the mighty Mike Cass. Those two standels are so cool! Then on to Ft Worth, where I got a surprise visit from my friend and superb steeler Pete Finney, who was playing with Shooter Jennings down the street. The most awesome player and great guy, Micky Adams was playing right across the street, (thanks for rattling my nerves a little, Mick! good for the character!) Sunday was the Austin steel Coop meeting where i was treated to a marvelous solo set by Marty Muse, as well as hob-nobbing with Herb, Geoff Queen and some of our other local great players. Then to cap it off, Johnny Cox sitting in with Heybale! ARE you KIDDING me?? And on top of it all, I spent each night on stage with my favorite country singer of all time, Johnny Bush.

This past weekend was a good example of why I plan to spend my eternity right here in the state of Texas. Cool

Hey Dave!

It was great to hang out, and you sounded great with the band even if I had to leave before you brought out "the singer". And Pearls is such a great hang, a lot more "vibe" than Billy Bobs to say the least, though we had a great crowd and a really fun show that night...

Caught Mickey playing a few songs with Southern Chrome but didn't have a chance to say hi...

Hope to see you again soon...

It is mind boggling how many great steel players there are around Texas. Austin and San Antonio seem to have more than their fair share but there are great players all over this state. What really blows my mind, Dave, is how quickly you became one of them. It was a blast to play at the Austin Co-op meeting and I look forward to checking some more of their events out. Was that a one off gig for Johnny Cox with Heybale?

Years ago when I was touring...back when it was feasible..(no pun)..I was always so happy to get back to TX to play..San Angelo, Amarillo, Lubbock, San Antonio...Big Spring..sigh.....etc etc etc...Bandera would be the coolest place in the world to live...if only you could work to live, not live to work..Music is EVERYWHERE IN TX.. Ive been here for 5 years. Ive made a lot of friends, and almost all of them are musicians..In a lot of the posts I read in here, I see the emotional toll taken on the players that have music in their blood, that seek new and innovative ways to express themselves in a society that has all but crushed their very way of life...and thats what music is for a lot of us...A way of life...something to fall back to, with a passion, when times were hard, as we struggled to do what we had to, to survive....Music is an undying expression of the human existence.
Ive been blessed to be surrounded by some of the best players in the business during my years here in TX...and proud to call them my friends...Johnny...junior, Reese, David, Boo, Dick, Randy, Jim, Tommy, Tim, Buck, Slim, Del, Steve, Mike,,,
When you pay homage to the people that inspire you here on the forum...You do a great service to some of the most sincere, genuine people on the planet...I applaude you all for that...!

Mickey, well said my friend...!!

I think if they ever totally turn out the lights on country music here in Louisiana (and they haven't yet), I plan on spending a lot of time across that Sabine river. A lot of good talent there....!!!
