As of late, I have really been enjoying Speedy West's music. I have played steel for 18 years and I can't quite figure out how I missed the boat until now.

Anyway, I have almost worn out my Speedy West CD's and I'm looking for some new (old) stuff to listen to. I also have been enjoying the Jimmie Rivers live cd with Vance Terry on steel, and this is the kind of stuff I'm looking for.
I have a bunch of Jerry Byrd, Herb Remington, Kayton Roberts, and Tom Morrell stuff, and I really like that stuff too, but I am really digging the fire and excitement that Speedy & Jimmy Bryant had on their early recordings. The Jimmie Rivers cd also has much the same excitement.
Does anyone have any suggestions? It doesn't have to necessarily be old stuff either.

Curtis Gordon had a steel player who was deadly, a lot like Speedy's work.

So far the Jeremy Wakefield suggestion is the winner. I just downloaded his Steel Guitar Caviar cd from Amazon. It sounds great! I need more of this stuff.

I have the Cindy Cashdollar cd, and it's good, but it doesn't have the sound that I'm looking for right now.

I will check into Curtis Gordon; I'm not familiar with him.

Still listening to Wakefield---LOVE IT!!!

By far my fave Speedy/Jimmy release is off the live Ford TV show called 'Let's Have A Party For The Old Folks'. I find Speedy's slow tunes to be much more effective than what he's generally known for. My Tani is a typical standout, he really emotes on his steel.

Yep, John...While searching for Jeremy Wakefield stuff I ran across The Lucky Stars. Good stuff! I bought both of their cd's too.

Also, ordered the Billy Jack Wills cd's with Vance Terry, so thanks for the heads up on those. I'm taking a chance because I could not hear samples, but I love the other Vance Terry stuff, so I'm sure it fits the bill.

Vance plays one of Speedy's tunes, "Skiddle Dee Boo" on a Billy Jack Wills CD.

Here's Jody's CD. This link is old so you may want to write Jody first to see if he still has copies.

I higly recommend anything by Bobby Koefer, especially when he was with Pee Wee King or Billy Gray. Bobby does it all with a thumbpick, and he has the most crystal clear chimes you ever heard - no one is better.

Thanx,
Jim
