I went to several steel shows at St Louis in the 80's and 90's and Curly Chalker was not there. I know Bill Ferguson can answer my question if he reads this. Did Curly ever play at Scotty's ?
I see he went into the Hall of Fame in 85 but that don't mean he played the show.
I met Curly at Scotty's 25th show. He told me he didn't own a guitar at that time. Can't remember the year. Shortly after he passed away.
You never see any video's of Curly and I know Bill taped them all. _________________ Bill

Yes, he sure did. Bill, or someone else may have the chronology, but I recall seeing him there early on and again in the 90's, I think, after the steel community came together to move him back to Nashville.
Others, I'm sure, have more info and the details.
Johnny Cox would be the man to ask probably.
[Whoops, missed b0b's post.] |

For years I saw Curly Chalker on Hee Haw. They never showcased the talent he was. I really did not care for him due to that show. A few years later I received the video b0b was referring to. Man, was I ashamed for not being a Chalker fan years ago. Curly Chalker was a monster player and especially on the jazz. I must have been too young for the Wilburn Brothers Show and I have seen several of those on RFD. To anyone who doe not have the video, you are cheating yourself of a priceless DVD. It is worth every dollar you would pay. |
