I received an email from Gary Glisson this morning. He is supposedly stuck in the Phillipines after his family was mugged. He needs money to pay his hotel bill and whatever before they will let him leave. Has anyone else received this ?
I need some answers..

I too recieved the same email. I suggested that he/they contact Travellers Aid. No way Id send off $$ to anyone without hearing their voice over the phone, and then only for a close, personal friend. Perhaps Gary's email account has been hacked.

....got another one from them. This one gave precise instructions on where and how to send the funds. Talk about persistence! Im glad that the real Gary posted about this, not that I bought it for a minute either. About time to call the authorities.

This is why I've never used the "address book" feature in my browser or email client. I simply write people's net addresses on a pad of paper that I keep near my computer. True, I have to type in each one individually when I want to send an email, but at least I never have to worry about someone hacking my computer and stealing email addresses of all my contacts! Cool

As Roy Rogers used to say..."Making things easy for good folk sometimes makes it easy for crooks, too!"

Now what am I supposed to do with these two $950 money orders I received by express mail when I signed up for that "mystery shopper" work at home deal that was advertised in the classified ads in my local newspaper?

Ray open a new bank account with those cheques only at a different bank....that way you can always give it back without a bank scam hitting you.... After the cheques clear pull the cash and close the account....I wouldnt suggest getting involved if it were " Money for nothing and your chicks for free"
LOL

It is an unfortunate fact of life but it is important to stay on top of some of these things. This scam has been around for at least the last few years. I pity the poor generous souls who get taken in, but poor generous souls have always been taken in since the first beginning of time. Folks; be skeptical, be very skeptical of every appeal you get for funds: and use your head: who has no access to family, atm's, banks, and all the things you used to do before the internet. If they can contact you, they can contact their bank (lost atm), their credit card companies (lost credit cards), their friends, family, anyone but you.

Good suggestion, Donny!. Gary,I'm curious whether of not you received my two emails regarding this matter or whether the scammer was the only one to receive them. Good advice as well, Bill.

I called Gary and asked him about his vacation ; he said his FaceBook thing got hacked and he had been on the phone and computer trying to get the FB thing straightened out.
I got (3) of the emails and sent a reply to the originator through another account , asking them how much they'd give us to take him back. No response yet. Very Happy Gary was the president of the steel guitar club back when it was alive . Laughing Glad to have you back , brother.

those hackers are out there. When they hit you will think lightning hit the computer. I gave one away that they hacked up two years ago. The best tech in the nation coudn't bring it back . Lost alot of good music. Itunes don't let you transfer only music purchased from them exclusively. Keep a good virus protect, an update it regular.

And,,, do not put addresses or phone numbers into posts. If you have to, scramble them up using dots/dashes/etc.. There are hacker search programs that look for numbers in the typical phone number configuration, 111 111 1111 or 111-111-1111. Use things like 11/1,,1/1,1, 1/1/1,1. Doing so will defeat the search program. It won't recognize them as phone numbers.
