This is truly a remarkable video. I've seen a lot of instructional material on the web, and I must say that I've never seen anything quite like this. This steeler clearly has some original concepts, techniques and ideas about this instrument we all love so dearly. Take a look:

While highly amusing to an actual player (I especially enjoyed the fancy footwork!), that type of misinformation could possibly be detrimental to a novice.

I must say, I have never seen such fancy footwork in my life. The finger picking and the crossover technique is one I think I shall never forget. Laughing Laughing

Without the accompanying tab I'm just lost. I found the section on volume pedal technique reassuring. I hope there will be more in this series for example "how to play the melody". That could be good.

There's a lot of information in this video that I did not know before but one should NEVER wear shorts when playing a pedal steel in front of others...

This is a put-on, right? It needs to be saved in a compilation with the guy that teaches the "pedal steel for guitarists" YT video.

I think the guy is actually a proficient right-handed steel player who made this video as a put-on by doing it on a lefty-steel, and with the stupid footwork.

Good grief! That guy needs lessons! He's doing everything wrong, starting with the shorts. Nothing looks worse than bare legs under a PSG. Laughing

Maybe he learned to play from that new pedal steel guitar Book compiled entirely from internet (mis)information, wikipedia, facebook, and other sites.

Herb, that was my first thought... this has to be a put-on. It looks like a Saturday Night Live skit.

Yeah, right. If you can't do it, make fun of it. (We learned that in grade school, didn't we?) Rolling Eyes

There's funny, and there's pitiful.

This is the latter.

There's nothing shameful in being fooled, Doug. Don't worry about it.

BTW, did you know that "gullible" is not in the dictionary? I didn't either!

I watched it earlier. Got a big kick out of it too. I was hoping it must be a joke. Nobody could be that bad. The crossover pedal move and being nowhere close to the LKL were tips...and the shorts and sunglasses, but I thought it was hilarious.

.....listing badly to port.....thought he was going to capsize any minute.

I've been working on his awesome version of Smoke on the Water. But I'm not getting the proper amount of string buzz. Try as I might, the bar keeps making solid contact with the strings. Any tips would be appreciated.

You have it all wrong Billy. Those are knee LEEVERS and CANTILEEVERS Laughing Laughing Winking I thought his intonation was ingenious. Play like this and you will never have to worry about tuning the guitar. It sort of takes out the argument that goes incessantly around here about how to tune... Winking Cool
