Hi everybody! I've been lurking on this forum for about 8 months and decided to take the membership plunge since it would be nice to ask questions once in a while. I want to thank you all for the great info here.
I've been playing for about a year on an 8 string Morrell lap steel (I've recut the nut to widen the spacing and upgraded to a stringmaster style pickup wound by Ryan Rukavina). I'm primarily a guitar player whose using the lap steel as a songwriting tool, but the fever is growing to learn some more traditional stuff too.
After some experimentation I've settled on GBDEGBDE G6 tuning as I just like that frequency range and feel.
Anyway thanks again!

Welcome Chuck
This is the place to be, I can't begin to count the times the forum has sped me down the path of knowledge concerning anything related to steel. _________________ www.deluxe34.com lap steel stands, Clinesmith, Gibson Console Grande, Northwesterns, The Best Westerns

I just noticed your tuning.......the 6 on top looks interesting, hmmmmmm
You may find the tuning low for traditional sounding licks, not that you can't play them, they just won't sound the same as they might in E6 or C6. _________________ www.deluxe34.com lap steel stands, Clinesmith, Gibson Console Grande, Northwesterns, The Best Westerns
