Gigs are increasingly rare with live country music venues in Southern California all but extinct now... so I hope you can make it to this cool one in San Juan Capistrano.

Great band, swinging club, let's sip a bit of holiday cheer together!

So what would Mr. Twang like for Christmas? A Hilton volume pedal would be awfully welcome, thanks for asking! ;->

Peace on Earth would also be most welcome.

All best,
John McClung

Friday, Dec. 8:
1 night with the great honky tonk band, the Working Cowboy Band. Real country music.

The Swallows Inn
31786 Camino Capistrano
San Juan Capistrano CA
949-493-3188
8:30 p.m. - 1:00 a.m.

This is a real cool authentic cowboy saloon, great vibe, fun people, decent dance floor, no cover charge. Ages 21+, no minors. Kinda small, so come early for good seats.

Directions: from LA/Orange County:
5 south, a few miles past the 5/405 merger, exit Ortega Highway; turn right
Quick 2 blocks, then turn left on El Camino Real. Lots of parking behind the club.
If you overshoot that, the road dead ends at the main drag, Camino Capistrano, just turn left and come back around the block to the rear parking lot. Or park on the street. There are several nice restaurants all around the club.

Now Thom, what kind of a lame excuse is that?!

Seriously, good luck with the surgery, we expect your company at the Mesa show, and those wonderful pack-a-seats.

Man I love that club. I used to play there with a great country band including Jack Daniels (with Greg Leisz subbing on guitar sometimes).

Tyack, is Jack Daniels doing any playing in addition to his newish career of web design? I sure hope so, hate to see a musician of his caliber not sharing that with the world. I still count Highway 101 as one of my fave all time country bands, up there with Desert Rose.

The Swallows is still pretty much the same old dive, the stage is moved and a bit roomier. Still a good crowd of dancers and cowboys and cowgirls there.

Don't forget, it's tomorrow night, authentic old school country music...if you're bemoaning the sorry state of radio country music these days (and who isn't?), then put your money where your mouth is and come support a fine country band...and heckle the steel player while you're at it!

My rig is the usual awesome Mullen D-12, 9+9, PodXT, Webb amp, Corona beer, Cuervo gold. All good stuff.

Kevin, I'll try to make it down, I'm on vacation that day. Do Rick proud!

I want to thank everyone that came out to the Swallows last Friday, including one new friend who's a forumite, sorry I'm blanking on the name, I blame the tequila. The others include: student John Hauck and his buddy; student Jim Berkson; old bandleader pal of mine, Jesse Oren; Lynda and Carol, gorgeous ladies and divine dancers whom I met at Rick Schmidt's haunt, McCabe's in Oceanside; and several others. Hope y'all had a good time, I sure did!

Hey Dean,

Unfortunately, nothing on the books for a New Year's gig. I'm driving back that day from Sacramento from a family wedding. Email me, we can exchange cell numbers and at least chat while you're in the area.

I went to this gig, It was great! Real good selection of music / songs, by Ray Price, etc. Everyone was having a great time, it sounded great for the venue, very balanced and not too loud. And, John was fantastic. Great playing, great tone, very tasteful, and he even sang a tune or two. I'm glad I decided to go, it was well worth the drive. Add me to the mailing list.
