Last night we saw the incredibly great Daryl Singletary. It was wonderful hearing his great voice sing all his hits and some great old classics. However the only disappointment was "no steel". There was definitely something missing. In fact Mike Johnson's brother was playing bass. How ironic.... |

Daryl Singeltary without a pedal steel guitar is like turkey without the cranberry sauce. Something is missing. |

DS without steel. If you asked him, I wonder what his excuse would be. |

I saw him in Nashville on Lower Broadway in May - without steel. If he had someone doubling on steel and Tele it would be great. That way he wouldn't feel the financial crunch yet would have steel for some of the very obvious numbers.
BTW, what a singer. _________________ Jackson Steel Guitars

It's sad to say especially from me but it seems that some of the country acts just don't have the budget to carry a steel player ! Singletary is one of my favorite singers with a '' HUGE '' voice ! I love it when he sings some of Paychecks songs ! The old violin is a great one he does . I have never understood why some acts have '' TWO '' lead guitar players and no steel Just doesn't make any sense to a country boy like me ! I just hope the trend changes in the near future , i know bird in hand or bird in bush ?! But stranger things have happened right ?

In Singletary's case I'm sure it is a matter of economics. Without a fifth guy you can almost travel in an SUV. He only carries one guitarist. I'm sure if he had the budget for two, one would be on steel. _________________ Jackson Steel Guitars

I can tell you that DS is in love with steel. He would always come over and watch as I played a break. His financial situation is definitely the trouble. As far as Danny, I could tell you the story but I don't feel it should come from me. They parted as friends - eventually. God Bless. _________________ Whip Lashaway
