| Can someone explain the difference between a normal humbuck PU and a Filtertron PU? |

| To my ear Filtertrons don't round off the way PAFs do, they seem to stay a little cleaner. |

| Filtertrons are underwound, low output dual coil pickups. They have a little more top end sparkle (kind of a "ping" to my ears) and overall clarity than Gibson humbucker and you can coax a little more "twang" out of a filtertron. Not well suited for hi gain use, but work nicely for lower gain applications like rockabilly, blues and country. |

From what I can find on google, apparently the bobbins are narrower than a normal humbucker which puts the two rows of polepieces closer together.
As far as gain, I believe Malcolm Young from AC/DC uses trons, and I think Billy Gibbons uses TV Jones Powertrons in his BillyBo guitars. |

That's it.I always liked the way 'Trons sounded part way between a Tele bridge PU and a Gibson humbucker.Interesting to have that kind of sound in the neck position,too.  |
