So Ive been playing non-pedal for a year as of last month. a couple of weeks ago my friend and I decided to put down a couple of recordings on an old Tascam that records onto cassette tape and see if we could upload that digitally, as an experiment. On the recordings Im playing drums, bass, guitar and non-pedal steel and my friend wrote the tunes, played rhythm and sang. Just kind of wanted to share it with some Steelers (especially "No Heroes") even though I know I have a long way to go and the recording is far from perfect. Give it a listen!

I like it.
You call it "Americana Indie", I call it "modern West Coast", in either case, great sound and style.
I like the approach you have towards the steel. Very subtle, yet effective
I might add, great songwriters too.

Thanks Rick, I really appreciate that. I like the description "modern West Coast" strange though coming from two Kentucky boys. Thanks for listening, much appreciated! |

I agree with Rick that the steel is very nicely suited to the musical style--whatever you want to call its category. Very tasteful. |

That's a pretty good recording! I record in a similar format. I load the tracks through a 4 track Korg Cassette machine and then mix the whole mess through the digital wonders of the computer. the levels usually come up pretty good. Much warmer IMO through this format, especially if you have a little band. Good song and your steel has a lot of taste to it. Thanks for sharing.
