Larry will be heard from very quickly, still living in the fine state of Georga. A nicer guy there isn't!
Get ready, he's about to be heard from big time!

I use to see and hear Larry on the old Nashville Now TV show that showed out here on the West Coast at 6:00 PM just as I was getting home from my day job.
Larry had a very catchy Steel Guitar instrumental he wrote and he periodically got to play it. I don't know what he called it or if he ever recorded it. I really enjoyed that Band and Ralph Emory. |

Billy T, Larry has an EXCELLENT instrumental CD with the Nashville Now gang (Hoot Hester, Fred Newell, David Smith, etc) called "Sassy Country" - still one of my favorite CD's.
tunes are:
*Sassy Frassin
Always on My Mind
Take Me As I Am
Are You Sure
*Dogwood Trail
*Real Country
*Nashwood
Mercy, Mercy
Healing Hands of Time
Gardenia Waltz
Cold Cold Heart
Easy Goin'
Larry wrote the ones I starred and I'll bet it's one of those you remember from Nashville Now. This CD may be hard to come by these days (it's on the old Step One label) but I'll bet if Larry comes up on this thread he'll let you know how you can get a copy.
I know what you mean about enjoying Larry and the band on that show as that's why I went out and bought my first steel. Thanks, Larry! |

Bobbe S told me that my '59 Perm was once owned by Larry. I wonder if that's verifiable? Anybody got pics of him playin' a Perm? |

Larry not only played on Nashville Now, he also played steel with guys like Ray Stevens. He played some steel guitar shows in Atlanta a few years ago with me.

John, Larry played your perm Sho-Bud on Nashville now several times, I have a show where he backed up Ray Price with it.
Larry bought that guitar from me twice I believe, I used it on several occations with Johnny Paycheck and Billy Walker shows.
At that time I thought I needed rollers on the keyhead, since found out that they weren't necessary.
I now own several guitars that don't have rollers,,,,or need them.
I am now collecting these older Sho-Buds, Is yours for sale?

Hi everyone! I am alive. I play a steel show every once in a while but cut back to mostly St. Lo.
As for the guitar, I did get one for Bobbe and that sure looks like it. Great guitar! If you sell it sell it to Bobbe he knows and loves those guitars as I do.
As for the Step One album I have some. Contact lwsasser@bellsouth.net.
Thanks Everyone,
Larry |

Larry,
Do you remember the setup you had on this guitar? There's a buncha empty screwholes on it's underside.
My best friend, JL Myers was at TNN from the git go. Audio engineer. Did all the Hee Haw shows, but a lot of other stuff too. Might you recall him?
Best,
JB |

I too would like to recommend Larry's Step One album "Sassy Country"......also available from Larry is tab for 4 of the songs on the CD (Cold Cold Heart, Are You Sure, Take Me As I Am, Healing Hands of Time) as well as rhythm tracks for the 4. One day I will play them well enough to open the door to my 'music room' and let my wife hear me. Thanks Larry. Hope to see and hear you in StL in September......as ET might have said, "You too Bobbe". |

One night on Nashville Now, Buck Owens was on. He sang "Under Your Speel Again". When he handed it to Wimpey, Wimpey played one of the greatest solos I have ever heard in my life. Hang in there Wimpey. Jody. |

Hi everyone!
John, as far as what set up I had on the Sho-Bud I don't recall but very basic. As for your friend JL Myers, I can't say I remember the name right off but might know the face. That has been a long time ago.
Bobbe, I agree about the maple on that guitar. That was a great time for steel guitar.
Ben, Thanks for the nice things you had to say about the Step One record and yes I will be in St. Louis this year. Hope to meet you there.
Your Friend,
Larry |

Thanks for the reply Larry! JL was in post production. It was a long time ago, but he still has his Prince Valiant haircut! |

It's so good to see Larry mentioned here. A great player, great tone and just a super nice guy. Lots of TV shows to his credit beyond "Nashville Now" as well.
Larry, remember the show in Asheville, NC in '77 or '78 when we cooked the Webb Amp ??
Hope you're well my friend.
Sincerely,
Chris "Tiny" Olson |
