I just got word that the BACM label out of England will be releasing a CD next month by the 101 Ranch Boys.

I don't have a full track listing, but the material is very early--circa 1944-45, most of it from 78s taken from the Rich label.

I haven't checked to confirm whether this early material has previously been on CD, but I doubt it.

Personnel includes George Long, Smokey Roberts, and Leonard T. Zinn.

Not sure if Leonard is on all tracks, but there should be at least one instrumental by Leonard: Paradise Isle.

I'd guess Amazon will have it--or other specialty dealers.

I have a couple recordings that were made from radio broadcasts of the 101 Ranch Boys. My Grand Mother had a disc recorder in the late 50s and early 40s, and made a lot of recordings of country music of those days. And she really liked steel guitar, so I have a bunch of that stuff. I gave LT one of the recordings I had of that band. I have a bunch of Jerry Byrd stuff from that period too. I haven't attempted to transfer those to some other media, like tape or CD yet.

Good to hear that a CD will be out there of those guys. I met that bunch in Garden City Kansas in 1952.
Leonard is the only survivor of that band.

Leonard T Zinn, Smoky Roberts and Rocky Rydell still remain from that group. Leonard is in Michigan and the other two around Lancaster PA
They are in constant touch these days and have played a few venues together in the past three years.

I guess I was misinformed Evelyn. Good to hear those two are still around.

That's O K. Bill, you aren't the only one who thinks they have all passed.
I believe there are pictures of them together on

L.T. is the reason I stuck with the steel for the last 63 years. I was fifteen years old playing in a band in Battle Creek Mich. We had a radio show every Saturday at 10:00 AM. Then we would hurry home to catch the 101 Ranch Boys from York Pa.
Leonard and Roy Ayres were my inspiration.
I am now living in Petoskey Michigan and hope to see L.T. one of these days.
