I just ruined my old Korg WT-12 tuner. What is a relatively decent tuner to replace it. I am looking at a Boss TU-12EX. Any suggestions _________________ Larry Hutchison, Marlen D-10 8 x 7, Peavey Sessions 500(2) and Peavey Nashville 400 |

That a good choice in my opinion,been using the TU-12 for years. Dependable,easy to use,fast,for about 80 bucks,does just as good a job faster and simple than some of these so-called high dollar tuners. Larry, I've used Boss TU-12 and TU-12H for past 20 years, and one day realized the two didn't agree on 440 pitch! Since then I've been using a Korg CA-30 that's alot smaller and seems very accurate...I think they're very inexpensive.(I found mine lying on the sidewalk, really!!)JS |

I, too, have been using a CA-30 for years. I think that model has been discontinued, though. You can get a CA-40 or a CA-1 for about the same price, less than $20. |

or . . . if you have an iPhone or something similar, there is a great tuning app called ClearTune for $3.99. I found it more accurate than the Korg. |

I'm using the Sonic Research Turbo Tuner ST-200. It's a true strobe tuner stompbox and you can program your own offsets. I had the handheld version and just got the stomp version and it works great. I used to use the Korg TU-12 but like this much better. |

Peterson - StroboFlip™ Compact Virtual Strobe (VS-F) Tuner. Awesome Tuner, for PSG! Has built-in presets, for Tempered & Sweetened Tunings. Jeff Newman's "Tempered/Sweetened" Tunings, are built-in to this tuner! No #'s...or charts; just look at the strobe...& that's it. You're in tune! Clamps on, to the rear leg...so it's within easy reach. Power supply & clamp, are included.
Cost: $199.00...but worth every cent! _________________ David "DJ" Rupert

Any chromatic tuner works,working the tuner to your personal perfections is what matters, i have never had a 'bad' tuner, no matter what brand. _________________ A.K.A Chappy.

The only comment about tuners that i'd like to put forward is; Some of the cheaper ones jump around a bit, i still prefer a needle one vs digital, however my pod xt has a super steady digital reading tuner and i tune accordingly at 442 on my E's and do 'compensate' tuning, works great for live work.
I ran a boss pedal for years before and it's a bulletproof unit, i don't know about the strobe tuners or the self calibration where you type in the cents below you need etc. I use a regular chromatic and use eye for temper tuning.
Korg makes a great needle one for about 80 bucks, had one for 15 years and been to hell and back, still works with tape over the battery compartment. Allow a $100.00 for a good one, don't go skimpy, you'll have to blame the tuner if they say you are out of tune! _________________ A.K.A Chappy. |

Hello Larry;
If you have not already purchased a tuner, here is one you might want to take a close look at. I was recently talking with Mr Mike Cass about a needle type tuner & he recommended a tuner but did not know the model number of it - but I was able to find it going by his good description - even tho this link will say they are dis-continued you can still find them. Read thru all the features this has then decide. I like it because it has a large back lit face & the needle also will have the numbers in cents you are away from straight up 440 if you want to tune that way.

Thanks, Larry but I was 38 years old back then -
Believe it or not, as best I can remember, I've replaced the black plastic tape only once !! |

Bill, I had my battery compartment taped shut too. Also had a piece of foam glued onto the battery compartment cover to hold the batteries in place.
I want to thank everyone for all the assistance. I have purchased the Boss TU-12EX. I tried it last weekend and it was pretty easy to use, and almost like my Korg. Except that I didn't have to turn the knob to get the keys. I have 30 days to take it back if I don't like it.
So thanks again everyone for your help.
